I'm shooting my 16 ga. in a 12 ga. tournament tomorrow and must find a way to utilize the limited components I have on hand. No time to get to the store.

Does anybody have a tested load for a 7/8 oz. approx. 1150-1200 load for the following components:

Powder: Green Dot or Universal, (I think a little Unique too if I can find it).

Hulls: Federal, Cheddite, WAACF.

Primer: W209 (I have about 90 Federal 209A laying around too I think).

Wads: WWAA!6, R16, DR16 (limited supply of 28 ga. card wads).

I searched the spread sheet but unless I missed it, nothing matched up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tim, That's the same load I use. Mine are 16.2 because that's what my bushing happens to drop. I don't know the figures but it will be fine for skeet or sporting clays. Recoil isn't even close to those Remington game loads. Good Luck, I hope you win. Fred

Win CF 1 oz Universal 19.0 Win 209 WAA16 1165 9,200 Hodgdons 2008 new

Just drop the load down to 7/8oz and the powder down to 17 or 18 grains. If to much room use one of your 28 ga card wads.

Heres another one Federal 7/8 oz. Green Dot 16.6 Win 209 DR 16 1190

You can drop any 1 oz load down to 7/8oz with no problems

Thanks for the help everyone. The suggested loads worked fine...my marksmanship not so much! Actually, most here on this site would agree that a 16 is as effective as a 12 for most clay games and all but the most demanding upland situations, all in a more svelte package.

I didn't feel the least bit under gunned and although I didn't win the event, I did finish a lot nearer to the top than the middle of the pack. My breaks weren't distinguishable from a 12 ga. as far as I could tell, and the misses were all me, not the gauge I was shooting.

Again, your suggestions were most helpful and I will be using them in the future also.

Tim is being modest so I'll brag for him. I shot on the squad with him (we two WERE the squad Razz ), and he was shuckin' that old 16ga Model 12 like a champ. He finished the 12ga event tied with Hal Hare for 2nd place. The field we were shooting on has a fairly difficult background but it didn't bother him as much as it did me - and this is my home club!
Great job, Tim!
Bill

Roadkill...who's being modest?!! As I recall, I only broke one more bird than you and you were shooting a 20 ga. with less shot than me! For me anyway, Model 12's are easier to shoot than horizontally oriented barrels (although I own one and really admire SxS's) too. So don't detract from your own good performance!

By the way, your club and everybody involved did a great job with the shoot. Although a stranger there, I was made to feel welcome as heck. Nice place full of nice folks. It's a long drive for me but if ever I find myself in that area, you'll be seeing me again. I'd enjoy supporting your club.

I sent you a pm.

Thanks again.
