Well, they could be interesting.........they are listed as Cowboy Action Loads for the 16ga.....1075 to 1150 fps.......I think the loads look to be a little bit high pressured for those velocities, and for someone using a vintage gun for CAS......they might be a little more than one might want..... |

I have several loads for the 16 with the IMR 700x from manuals of the 80's and 90's including 1-1/8 and 1-1/4. This is not suited for the 16. Even with the 1oz load 700 pressures are to high. That is why 800x was developed for the smaller gauges which is more suited. I use 800x for most of my 16 loads and some International clays which I like very much.
Find some of the older Lyman handloading for shotgun books for reference you will find many loads for the 700 and 800. |

When I had joined with the "16ga Low Pressure Reloading Group", one of the load I was looking for was a 2 9/16" [65mm] 1 oz. load using Fiocchi hulls, BP Sporting 16 wads, and IMR 800X powder. There is one listed, and it is exactly what I was looking for! It is rated at 1223fps, and I have clocked it at 1208fps., and at 8766PSI! |

I have tried these Hi Skor IMR 700x cowboy loads, they have worked ok, no way to measure pressure, but the primers look less deformed than factory loadings after firing, and hulls look gently used after 2-3 loadings.
I am going to add the PR spreader next and try them for grouse.
I will say there seems to be more plastic left to clean out in the barrels and very little powder fouling. Appears to be a clean burning powder. |
