Grouser although the R16 wad has been around for years there was not a lot of loads developed for it over the last decade because Remington in their infinent wisdom decided that we the shooting public didn't need them.

However, the performance of the R16 is identical to the SP16 (1 1/8th ounce wad) so you can substitue the R16 for the SP16 for 1 ounce loads.

Here is a load from the Hodgdon 2000 load guide:
Remington SP Hull (Interchangeable with the Black Plastic Promo hull)
1 ounce shot
20.9 grains of Longshot
CCI 209M primer
Reminton SP 16 Wad (Substitute the R16)
This load is listed at 1250 fps with a chamber pressure of just 8,400 psi.

If you are a member of the LPG you will find this and many more loads in the Will Pennington file. If you are not you really need to join.

There are universal loads listed on the manufactures web site.Sub the R16 for the SP16. I think its 19.8 gr I back it off to 19.5gr win 209 primer R16 with 1 oz. wcm #8. Pressure is a liitle high 9600 psi. I shoot it in my Citori and Merkel for skeet. Burns clean and meters real good in my 9000G.

If I read Lyman's 'Shotshell Reloading Handbook' 4th edition, for 16ga, 1oz, Remington Hull, 16.0gr of Green Dot, Rem209P, WAA16. Some have said the you can use R16 inplace of WAA16s. 'Reloading for Shotgunners' 5th edition says the samething.

Universal powder and Unique are both the best pick for one ounce loads in the Remington hull. And yes, you can substitute an R16 for an AA16 wad directly. If you go with the SP-16 wad for a one ounce load, you will need to insert one .135" 28 ga card wad into the bottom of the shot cup to get a decent crimp. Performance will then be about identical to the R16 wad.

However, I'd stay away from Green Dot for 1 ounce loads. Unique will give you higher velocities at lower pressures and better patterns. Same for Universal. Both powders use the same 19 to 21.5 grain range. Their burn rates are nearly identical. However, both require their own powder bushings as their respective densities are a bit different. Use the one that is cheaper and easier to get. In my area, its Unique.

This recipe is from Hodgdon's annual manual '06.

1oz shot
18.5gr Universal clays powder
R16 wad w\zero wad pressure
Win 209 primer

1165fps @9,000psi

Very uniform patterning and clean burning. Although I do my patterns at 35 yards instead of the usual 40.
