I have two citori's. I can't figure their numbering system. 1st is the latest purchase. Is a 525 serial no. is 25989mr131 2nd. is 23311pn823. Anyone can give me a description when made an anything else. Old 16 |

Somewhere I have a chart that gives codes for years of mfg for Brownings, but I don't think it goes past the Belgium ones. |

Browning's serial numbering system since 1975 has consisted of a model number, date code, and serial number. If the gun was made in Belgium, the model code comes first. If made in Japan, last.
Your guns were made in 2007 and 1989 in Japan. 131 and 823 are the model codes, but I cannot find them in my usual reference:

I don't know why they left out the 16 gauge Citoris. |

OK, 131 is ALL Citoris since 1998. Still no joy on 823... |

I have a 723 and it is a Lightning Field, very difficult
to find out this info, had to call the Browning Historian
So the 823 will have another name, need to look at the original
box end to see what the title is
Is the 823 a Grade III Lightning???

Skeetx- I think you broke the code. The "2" must denote a 16 gauge. |

The Browning 16ga is severely neglected when it comes to date and model codes on the Browning website.
Your answers may come from a call to Browning at 1 800 333 3288 ask for customer service. If they cant help ask for Glen Jensen, Browning Historian. |

a call to the historian is not a bad idea. I learned some interesting things.
I just looked at my "PP" code gun. and it is a grade 3 with the number code of 823.
My "PR" gun is coded with 123, which is a "regular" gun (grade 1) according to my info a PR code = mfg 1987 (first year), PN = 1988
Happy hunting |
