The picture is not great, but I'm wondering what, if anything, jumps out to you guys when you look at this picture. Any way of telling the vintage? What about that little recoil pad, could it be original?

It's advertised as a 16ga Citori with 26" barrels, that's all I know. Have not contacted seller yet. Figured if nothing else, I'd give you guys a picture to look at on a Sunday.

Thanks for any info, JT

With wood like that , I'd bet it's a Gran Lightning . Never seen wood that nice on a Grade 1 Citori .

That pad is not original . Ask what the LOP is .

I'd ask about the chokes--Invector or Invector Plus?

Could be a Bill Hanus gun in one of the last couple runs he had. In that case, the pad could have been added when purchased through Hanus and the seller would probably tell you it's from the factory with pad.

Hopefully it will be this easy
Please ask to see a photo of the end
of the box it came in.
This should answer many questions

Something like this

There is actually a chance that the box is with it, so that would be a huge help. If it came through Bill, would he have marked the box in any way? Is there any way to know if it is a Hanus gun?

Anyone know the original L.O.P. to the edge of the wood? If I get it in my hands I would like to be able to confirm if it has been cut or not.

Invector / Invector Plus - Did they make the invector plus in 16ga?

Thanks for the replies, I'm learning...

Pretty sure the original LOP to the end of the wood should be 14'' . Add the original buttplate and you get 14 1/4 . 16's were Invector . I've had Hanus guns and they were not marked .

I'm no expert, but I do know that 16 gauge Browning Citori models made by Miroku have never had Invector Plus chokes. No fixed choke barrels either--only Invector chokes. I've heard of but have never seen any 16 ga BPS models with fixed chokes. All the ones I've seen have Invector chokes too.

I've seen Grade I models with wood as nice as the one pictured above. I've owned some. I've also seen higher grade guns with some pretty mundane wood. Getting nicely figured wood on any gun bought sight unseen or on line can be a crap shoot.

Just how it is. Hope my input helps. Good luck. The gun looks like a nice one IMO.

Never you mind my friend. We're all getting older and increasingly swimmy headed as time goes by. I'm just glad I don't have to depend on Depends just yet. Laughing

I was able to get a phone call in. The serial number ends in PP723. So it looks like 1988, but as has been discussed, 723 doesn't show up on the Browning website, not sure what model it is.

The box is no help, it is "non-matching". The pad is a Pachmayer Decelerator.

Anyone familiar with or able to decode Model 723?

I have to find time to go see it in person...

Thanks for the replies, JT
