I cut apart a 16ga Herters shell.
The wad to the left is from the herters shell the wad is a little compressed as you can see in the oval it is a SG 16 wad.
The powder is tuqouse blue and are little flat round plates 14.5 grains.
The shot is 8 shot in size and just a little under a 1oz[/img] |

Looking at those wads, they look identical except the Herters wad looks like the oval ring has taken a set from being slightly compressed. I'd hate to bet any money on it, but I think they're both SG-16's. |

Mike:
I always start out set for heavy loads: Recoil Spring, Friction Ring-bevel up, Bronze Friction Piece-bevel up. If it doesn't cycle, I switch to the setting for light loads: Ring-bevel down, Spring, Bronze F.P.
If I'm still having trouble I add lube to the mag tube. Hasn't helped with Herters.
I'm going to try a box from a different case next; a friendly suggested it might just be that lot.
Polishing the mag tube is next, and maybe the chamber. But I don't think its the gun--I've got 2 Sweets and both eject other brands and my reloads 10 ft. Neither likes Herters.
Last resort is to take a hacksaw to the friction piece. Might work! |

Just checked, the 20 gauge uses the same Friction Piece as the 16. The hacksaw shouldn't be necessary. I'll try a single 20 Magnum F.P.
Fingers crossed... |

Another trick seldom used is to line up the cuts in the bronze friction piece and the steel ring over it.
Often works

Another trick would be to send those 9 cases of shells to me. My Remington Model 31 cycles them just fine, and I'd be more than happy to pay for shipping. |

Let me try the 20 mag friction piece first. I'm actually pretty excited about it! |

To add, the hull looks as good as anything available to reload and better than most. Shot was soft in ones I opened. But the $69.99 a flat price at Cabelas is refreshing. |

Update: My attempt to use a smaller friction piece to get the Herters to cycle a Sweet Sixteen didn't work. The plan for now is to use them for the 2nd shot at doubles. I've only got about 2000 shells left... |
