I ran across this photo announcement on another phpBB board. Their board uses the same format as ours so we tested it and it works. The normal, common sense rules apply and try to rember to come back and delete it after a week or so.

Thanks --16ga.

Subject: How to Post Photos

Unfortunately, you can't paste photos directly into your post. Instead, you must use a photo-hosting site (www.hunt101.com comes to mind, and it's free!) Generally the host will provide a link to your photo that you can copy and paste into your post, so check with them for details and instructions.

To post a photo, place your cursor where you would like your photo to appear and then click on the "Img" rectangle at the top right of the formatting options. Then right click and paste your photo's link into the post and then click on "Img*" to close the tag (note that what was originally "Img" in the rectangle has changed to "Img*".) Put in a space and continue typing your post.

The string will look something like this:

with the "your photo link" being the image link provided by your photo host.

Please try to keep your images less than 400 pixels wide or everyone that keeps their screen resolution at the archaic setting of 800x600 pixels (I know, I know, my eyes aren't what they used to be either!) will have to scroll back and forth to read the post. Please delete your post after you suceed so we don't waste storage space.

Have Fun!

Hello, 16ga! Glad you thought my directions for photo posting found at the LeFever Arms Company Affiliation Open Forums made some sense. I think more people have problems with posting photos than any other area of these forums.

Since you were able to make use of these directions, I'm going to put in a shameless plug for the LeFever Forum, which I administer. It can be found at http://lefeverforum.informe.com . We've got a link to this site over there (Lefever Links > Other Sites of Interest,) and I know for a fact that we have a lot of dedicated 16 gauge fans! In fact, my favorite LeFever is a 16 bore G grade ejector gun with original 26" damascus barrels. It's very sweet!

I invite everyone here at 16ga.com to drop by for a visit!

Best Regards,
American Double Gunner (also a member of 16ga.com!)

Charles,

Click up your picture from the choices and then look below your picture.

You will see "Linked Thumbnail" and a url address below it. BELOW THAT ADDRESS, there is a little icon that looks like a picture.... Press that....

Now you will see a choice of url addresses to use for a larger sized picture..

Slidehammer,

Exactly what thumbnail are you talking about, location please. All I get is
the address posting and not the real picture. This new format stinks.

Dave,

Try adding .jpg to the end of your photo address link.

You upload and store the photos on some "photo hosting site" (and here's the BIG THING!)-- that you think will NOT CHANGE or delete them or go out of business or make people pay to see them or impose limits on views or etc. etc.

So basically NOT Photobucket! And I would further say, not any other service that uses the same business model. Places a lot of people used to use, that have ALL begun giving problems now? Photobucket, ImageShack, Flickr, I've seen a ton of broken links from all of them.

So where do I recommend posting pics?
1. ShotgunWorld forums. If I'm going to post some article here with pics, I am probably going to write something there too...might as well just start there, post the pics on their NICE hosting platform, and copy the post to here and link the pics.
2. DuckHuntingChat.com forums. Same as above.

Basically the inability of this site to host photos makes it a 2nd tier place to post things... absolutely no insult intended to whoever runs the site and the massive work they do I'm sure! 16ga I think--I'm sure the reality of cost and economics and lack of income from this site dictate it all, and in fact I have a hard time understanding how many sites pay for the bandwidth and storage for photo hosting. But it is true, this just isn't the best place to make a "first writing" on a subject with photos.

There are a ton of places that do host photos, just try to find one that you think will stick around, and doesn't expose your private name/info in the link like a lot do, if you're concerned about keeping your anonymity.

Dave in AZ,

The jpgbox.com works real well! I use it for posting pictures here all the time now.

When posting your pics here please keep in mind the size of the pic. There's little need to post full resolution pics from your 12 megapixel smart phone or camera, resizing to ~800x600 will almost always be adequate.

Load times for some of the pic intense threads are long enough that I often don't even bother to check those threads much.
