Need a gunsmith well versed in working on double triggers. Gun doubles when firing the back barrel first. This is on an old Beretta sidelock. Cole's, who are the Beretta specialists wont work on old Beretta's--this is directly from them. Thanks!

back years ago on the old OUTDOOR channel , Tony Makris (?) was hunting Cape Buffs with I believe a big bore Berettta . They liked where the left barrel shot better than the right , so decided to hunt that way . Got his shot , pulled the trigger and both cannons went off ! Knocked him on his keester . Guide wasn't sure what to do , hunter down , Cape down - chaos !! Turned out that the gun was designed to shoot right barrel 1st and left barrel had a harder grab on the sear . Sounds like yours is the same way .

Wow. Cole's won't?? That really surprises me. I guess I don't know why it should surprise me, though -- I haven't had enough dealings with them lately to have any kind of handle on that. My guess is they have moved completely into the gun and parts retail business, and out of repair, except for stuff they have parts for or can get quickly. In plain words, they might not be able or willing to make, repair or hunt up parts for older models. Not un-heard of. Can't blame them if that's the case.

Anyway . . . actually, double triggers are pretty simple -- a hell of a lot simpler than single triggers. It is patently easy to access the works on sidelocks, too. In fact, that is one of the very reasons for a sidelock. I suppose the big question is the value of the gun relative to what you might spend on the repair. This might push you from a "gunsmith" solution to taking a chance on a do-it-yourself or "good buddy help" route. Best thing to do is contact a good all-around gunsmith with double gun experience. At the very least, a quick phone conversation will give you some idea of what you're getting into. Then you can choose your path. I can recommend Del Whitman. He's a great gunmaker, a super fellow, and very experienced in all facets of gunmaking. I've seen the guns of some pretty famous shooters in his shop. As a result, he is probably backlogged pretty well, and not inexpensive. I've used Hugh Lomas (Elkhart Lake WI) before, and he is a properly trained English gun man -- good but not inexpensive. You can find info for him on the net. There are many others. e.g. search or inquire on: https://www.doublegunshop.com The fellows I've dealt with will not nick you -- they must charge competitive rates to stay in business, and the good ones have backlog. Competitive rates are not cheap.

Ahh, one more thing (like the old TV detective Columbo (Peter Falk) would say) . . . Have you ever had "doubling" issues with another gun -- I mean a real gun (with two triggers Laughing -- somebody's gonna kill me for that statement -- I mean it in jest, of course). When others shoot this gun does it double? I only bring this up to see if you've really checked that your technique is not contributing to the problem. No offense intended.

Kind Regards and Best Wishes,
Tony

I'd call Coles Naples location, seems like most of the real gunsmithing is down there now and they may have a better idea of what exactly they do and don't do.

For trigger work the best man is Phillips gunsmithing in Texas he is the best trigger guy anywhere.

Can't believe the firewall at work is blocking the site but from what I can find it is

http://www.phillipsgunsmithing.com/

Phone: (210) 313-5988

I first met Phillip when he was part of the P&P gunsmith team Patrick Gottberg being the other P. I know them both well and Pat is still in Wells Mn. But anything to do with triggers Phillip is your guy. I've even seen a Benelli Super Sport that he made and installed a release trigger in. Many of the K and P guys use him for not only trigger work but gun repair and maintenance.

The FAIR Iside Gardena is provisioned to shoot that way as well. Pull the rear trigger first and both barrels fire. Something left out on most US sites but is on the FAIR Italian website. I've never felt the need to have both barrels to fire at the same time myself.

https://www.fair.it/en/products/hunting-shotguns/side-by-side/iside/

“ISIDE GARDENA” that has a double trigger / single trigger shooting system, ejector, divergent barrels, in order to have a large bullet group (oo) in shooting both shots with the rear double trigger actioned first. There is a wide selection of calibres: 12-16-20-28-410.

But they only list the Gardena in 12 ga. And it will eat 3" shells if you really feel the need for punishment. Intentionally inflicted.

Thanks for the replies. This gun is a sidelock, so access to trigger function should be easier than a boxlock. This is a double trigger gun, a 12 ga. This does not happen with 1 1/8 oz or less, only heavy 1 1/4 oz loads. Front trigger seems light.

Front trigger light? Got leaf springs? Probably got a cracked spring. I mean spring not broken yet, but probably cracked. That's the way they go on my Perazzi.

Hugh Lomas is retired. Isn’t Coles the place that knows all things Beretta? If you need another option I would try Dennis Potter @ ‭(262) 378-7540‬. However, Dennis is in Big Bend, WI. If he doesn’t work on Berettas he probably knows someone who does. Another good option is;

JJ Perodeaux in OK.
Phone # (580) 747-1805
Email address: jj@jjperodeau.com

I have had both of these Smiths work on my guns and they do great work.

They get referred to as the place for "all things Beretta" but that's a quick (and somewhat lazy) answer to a potentially complex question. They are undoubtedly the go-to place for all things modern Beretta, but anything prior to the 68X and A300 era guns may be out of the core of their expertise and/or the focus of their business. The feeling I've gotten from a number of different people is that they are not really focused on repairing anything antique, collectable or unusual, even if it's a Beretta. But to be honest, I've never gotten the sense that Beretta itself is overly interested in the old stuff either, at least the consumer-grade stuff.

Cole has gotten very picky about what they want to do, and are overwhelmed with work. Lots to take from that.

Definitely sounds like a worn left sear. Shouldn't be too difficult a fix hopefully.

Pat Laibe, Spicer, MN would be the guy to call if Cole’s won’t do it. Tell him the make and model and he will tell you if he can. Reno
