I joined the 16 g. club today.
I have three 16's and I want to reload. Do have experience on a MEC Junior in 12g.
I am planning on purchasing a 16 reloader. New advice on the model?
Thinking about the MEC Grabber. Comments?
Shoot 100-200 rds/week
I also have once fired hulls from Remington, Win AA, and Federal (purple)
500 each.
Looking for a one ounce wad that will work with one of the hulls I listed. Can't find any at Midway, Natchez Shooting etc.
Also need a good load with low to med recoil......
Can anybody help?

Wlecome to the Society, Drake.
There are others with much more experience than I reloading, but for what it is worth, here are my two cents.
For low recoil loads join the reloaders group. (first thread in this forum) Actually, information on all of your desires in a load can be found there. Inexpensive, and well worth it. Many, many low-pressure loads for almost any hull, powder, wad, and primer combination you can think up.
There are quite a few threads on wads here, but I think most folks would suggest either Remington R16 wads, which are one ounce, or a larger capacity wad with fillers. Recob's www.recobstargetshop.com is a source for the R16, but you may have to wait while they get enough orders together to forward to Remington.
Again, there are several threads in this forum with advice on reloaders. I have a Lee LoadAll for my 16's. Slow, but it does a decent job, and is very affordable.
If I may ask, what are your three 16's? I have a 1930 Sterlingworth, 1956 Ithaca M37, and a new Remington Spartan 310 OU.
Once again, welcome to the Society.

Drake-the Grabber will suit you well. I have been using one since 1976, and MEC's are the best product on the market for the money. There are plenty of loads listed. I prefer the 1 ounce loads and find recoil not to be an issue. It is hard to find good hulls. I have been loading mostly the black Remington cases, but they do not last more than a few loadings before the case mouth starts splitting. Watch for specials as we near the start of hunting season and buy a few flats. |
