Trying to wade thru all the pages here to find some info so I'll take the easy way out and ask some questions that you guys have probably answered numerous times in the past. I'm swimming in RGL hulls and 1oz CB wads. I'm looking looking for a pleasant to shoot low recoil 1oz load using Green Dot, Universal, Etc. Tried Longshot but had a fairly good bite to it. Also looking for a 7/8 oz low recoil load with the RGL.
Purchased a 16ga manual from BP but it had 1 recipe in the book for RGLs.

Do you want low recoil ( low velocity ) or low pressure ? Finding a low pressure load with those components might be hard , lower velocity there might be a few 2 1/2 dram loads

No more of these RGL's

Even 1100 FPS 1 ounce loads can push you around if they are used for higher volume shooting out of a light gun. There is a great alternative. Try 16 grains of Green Dot under a 7/8 or 3/4 ounce shot load with any standard strength 209 primer.

The Claybuster 16 ga wad shot cup is too deep for any load less than 1 ounce. It will actually accommodate 1-1/8 ounces of shot. However, one to three 1/8 inch thick (.135") 28 gauge card wads placed in the shot cup first as needed will nicely fill up the unused space. With fillers, the CB wad will serve as well as the DR16 wad which is similar in all ways except for the shot cup depth. Crimps will be perfect and recoil will be reduced to the point of being almost unnoticeable.

These light for gauge loads pattern superbly and smash targets just as well as any 1 ounce load. Great for smaller game birds too. Give them a try. Good luck.

Yes just poking a little humor in. As far as buying shells, I wouldn't know what is available. Haven't bought any new shells in over five years. Right now I'm going through another thousand hulls I picked up this week. 16 gauge, 12 gauge and 20 gauge. The only thing I have to buy is shot and I get that off of Craigs List. Get some good buys there.

16gaugeguy on that load you suggested 16gr GreenDot 7/8 oz 209 primer what do you suggest for a wad.

Just tried a load a fellow had out the skeet club of 15.3 gr Green Dot 7/8oz lead W209 SG16 wad User friendly

Use your CB wads with filler wads. They fit the RGL hulls very well. The SG16 wads are designed for Cheddite hulls which have a considerably bigger inside diameter than the RGL hulls. Another good alternative is the DR16 wad from Down Range. They won't need filler wads. Of course, the Remington SP16 and RP 16 wads are also okay. Filller wads will be needed with either.

With RGL hulls, I advise against choosing any of the European style 16 ga wads like the SG Gualandi, Cheddite, or Z wads. These wads are designed for Cheddite type hulls which have a larger inside diameter than the Remington hulls. The wads fit too tight, are hard to seat, and bulge or even occasionally split the RGL hulls. The overly tight fit increases the wad pull which can adversely affect pressures.
