Here is my own personal take on this.
10ga, 12ga - Big
16ga, 20ga - Mid
28ga, .410 - Sub
This is a fairly new designation/way of thinking on my part. Came up with it after I acquired my 16.
I have 2 12ga Beretta 391's which I have shot plenty of Pheasant with but next season will probablt relegate the wood stock version to 5 stand and Sporting Clay shooting. The synthetic Camo model will handle waterfowl and turkey as it always have.
The bulk of the Upland hunting for Pheasant and Grouse will go to my 16ga Ciitori, 2 20ga Citoris, and my Beretta 390.
I have slotted my 28ga Citori as my Quail gun and use My .410 BPS sometimes on Chukars.
The best laid plans......................

Mills,
good post. We missed you at the NE SXS this weekend---a great venue. Shot with Rich, Mark ,Daryl, Mike, Eric and a whole host of other miscreants. You would love it there in the mtns. of Pa.
This year the large bore course was designated for 10, 12, and 16 (and of course Mark's 8 bore). The small bore was for 20 and smaller.
Since I nevershoot more than 7/8 oz thru my Parker GH, and it weighs 6 lbs, I consider it a smallbore.
BTW, my best score was with a Parker VHE 20, with cyl/cyl barrels on the
"big bore" course. |

BTW : The GH 16 is getting a makeover. Brian Dudley fixed some action issues and redid the wood and it looks great. When I get the barrels back from Dale Edmonds, I will post photos |

You have to start the small bores somewhere- why not at the 16 bore? Actually the 28 and .410are getting to be favorites of mine. |
