I just found this site and look forward to discussing my favorite gauge. I am looking at an old GECO - 30" s/n 17055. Can anyone give me an idea when this was built? The gun is in a pawn shop with bad lighting so no pictures. The gun seems to be chambered for 2 3/4 shells and the barrels are marked 1665 & 1669 so I assume they are close to full and maybe modified. The price seems ok at $500.00 but I am no expert. Any information will be greatly appreciated. |

I have a 1936 GECO 16ga built by JP Sauer on the "ejector" model platform. GECO was a German retailer like Sears Roebuck or like Cabelas today. My GECO is a first class gun, 28" bbls, double trigger, cocking indicators (like an Ithaca NID, not typical Sauer/Merkel style) its English stocked with a splinter forearm and weighs in at 5.75lbs. Mine was severely north of 500.00, but being in immaculate condition, worth every penny and more.
I'd jump all over it if its a Sauer, hard to say who other manufacturers were, but I believe Lindbergh and Francotte built guns for GECO too. Those makers are no slouchers either. |

Thanks for the replies. The pawn shop is some distance from me so I will not be back there for a few days. Does the s/n mean anything or the choke marking indicate the tightness of the barrels? |

I meant LINDNER not LINDBERGH. stupid auto text. Also I believe that GECO contracted with one or multiple guilds from the Leige, Belgium area.
Also, as byrdog pointed out, mine started life as a 2-1/2" gun and was lengthened to 2-3/4".
Good luck! |
