Why do these threads always have to degenerate?

Did you ever think that there is a possibility hat the OP might have used powders that might not be perfectly suited to the application.

What does shoot well mean? Did the loads perform like they are supposed to?

Just trying to get info and help the guy, while covering the bases. That's it nothing more.

I can shoot 100's of rounds through my guns with the loads I use with nothing but a little soot and plastic left in the barrel.

If you want to argue with me send me a PM.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. A little more background on my day. I loaded up 5 or so shells of each load I wanted to try just to check fit/crimp and than shot them all to judge recoil and other the overall feel of a good load. I took notes and I plan on loading a few boxes of the ones I liked to head to the pattern board with.

The loads that seemed particularly dirty were:
Wad Primer Powder Weight Wad Shot Load
Ched 2 3/4" Ched209 Blue Dot 31gn SG16 1oz #8
Ched 2.5" Ched209 Unique 16.6gn SG16 3/4oz #8
Fed 2 3/4"" Fed209A Blue Dot 32gn SP-16 1 1/8 #8
Fed 2 3/4" Fed209A Blue Dot 30.5 SP16 1 1/4 #8

All of the loads seemed to fit well except the 3/4oz load which were dished pretty good. I'm going to put a filler in that load to make it crimp better because it seemed to perform very well.

I am not overly concerned on how dirty the Blue Dot loads were because they would be for hunting loads and if it isn't really an issue other than a little more cleaning I'm OK with that for the low volume I'd be doing with those.

Thanks again everyone for the responses. I'm going to make sure the wad is firmly seated and not hung up and make sure my crimps are a little tighter.

Charlie

The 1 oz. Blue Dot Load and the 3/4 oz. Unique load will probably leave unburned powder. Neither of those powders are correct for the payload. Find a nice 1 oz. load for the Unique, you will like it better.

The one thing you need to know about some of the loads on the charts, they may all have been tested, but some only had 2 or 3 rounds tested........just so you know. Are all the loads safe? Probably......Are they all top notch loads? Probably not.

The last two loads may leave some debris, but there should not be a lot of unburned powder flakes with either load. Make sure you have a nice solid crimp, about 1/16" (.060") deep.
