Which 16ga hulls do you prefer and reason why? |

Cheddites. Last longer than anything else and easy to load. And please, don't anyone talk about how great the long discontinued and virtually unobtainable AA CF is!

I have thousands of CF Winchester 16 gauge hulls
But I also use Cheddites, Win, Rem, Fiocchi and Federal hulls

Cheddite #1, Federal #2
But that could reverse itself very easily as all my favorite loads are in Federals. |

My favorite hull in current production is the Remington STS, unfortunately they haven't seen fit to make them in 16 ga; so until they do I use Winchester SuperX which I understand is the same as Cheddite. |

Cheddite and Federal . I have a few hundred Herter's too and can't tell the difference from Federal. The Cheddites I buy are preprimed , new cases . They load well initially and I get 5 to 7 reloads on them . I use them as my 8 shot dove/target 7/8 oz load . Federal I buy a few now and again as factory ammo , and use them for my 1oz 5 shot squirrel/rabbit/pheasant/grouse load (all 4 seasons run concurrently here , so if I kick up a grouse , it gets shot with that load too). Federals only seem to make about three reloads before splitting |

I reload what I buy loaded. I've reloaded Black Rem, Estates, Fiocchi. The Fiocchi seem good. The Black Rems work but are brittle and don't go many reloads. I wish the Estates didn't have the composition base wad. I only reload those once. They are Federal hulls (purple!!!) and use Federal data.
I just got some of the Herter's at Cabela's. They say they are Cheddite hulls so I'll see how they go. |

I also prefer the RGL hulls, but for a different reason. I get all I want by picking up once fired discards from my club's skeet and trap fields or out of our hull disposal bucket. They are free for the taking.
Yeah, I know. They are the junkiest 16 ga hulls there are. They don't last worth a hoot, and they can be a pain to reload if we don't iron out those pinched up hull mouthes. But they are free. I like free. |
