Wanted to make a plug for John Hewitt's book "The Model 12 Winchester as a Way of Life." John was a regular in Gray's Sporting Journal until he suffered a stroke a few years ago. Those who read Gray's won't need any further introduction. He's very good.
This book is full of humor, some poignant moments, and lots of hunting, fishing, and general carrying on by John, his brother, and assorted relatives and friends.
It was reviewed in Gray's about 3 issues ago, and I finally got around to buying a copy. Couldn't put it down. For $25 including shipping, and at 300 plus pages, it's a bargain.
You can find it at http://hoppercreekpress.com/
Enjoy. |

Got my copy a month or so ago; it's in the summer reading pile. From the brief look-through I've given it I agree with your assessment! |

I agree with 662 , I could not put my copy down once I cracked it.
For those who do not know, John Hewitt was a Marine officer during the Vietnam War. His few references to his Marine training experiences brought back lots of memories.
Highly recommend the book.

Mine is signed too. I've been rationing it so it lasts at least a week.
Fun to read and brings back a lot of memories for me of the 60's. |

Mine too, and since John is a native Kansan, it has some "inside" Kansas references also . |
