I was just looking online at powder prices and noticed that the majority of powders are out of stock. Does anyone know why and if this is likely to be the norm for the future? |

I understand a plant in Australia that supplied Hodgdon burned down this year, but have not really heard a good explanation for the shortage, which is severe. Can't just be hoarding because no one has any powder to hoard. No shortage of ammo, so there is not an overall powder shortage. It must all be going into the black hole that is consuming the .22 lr ammo. Seems with these products the free market is not working correctly. We have run out of shot, primers and powder for various times in the last few years, but I've never seen a wad shortage. Makes me wonder.

I will admit that I am a bit of a natural born hoarder when it comes to all things hunting. I certainly don't qualify for a tv spot but when I find a good deal on one I often buy three. That being said I can never remember shortages like we have seen in recent years and some of my stockpiles that used to be mountainous now resemble poor excuses for mole hills. I am starting to get nervous. God forbid I may have to shoot a 12 or 20 ga at targets and save my 16 shells for birds. |

Was just in a Cabela's in Woodbury MN. Lots of rifle powders, mostly 1#s for $28.99. The single flavor of 8 pounders was $199.99 each. Not a grain of shotgun powder to be seen. Shooting my air rifle more and considering an air pistol. Not aware of an air powered scattergun, so maybe I should get busy.

I stopped by my local gunshop yesterday and picked up some Unigue. He also had Claydot in the 8 pound jugs. Plus some Blue Dot and I think Red Dot. First time in a while that I've seen any on the shelves. |

I am jealous. I haven't seen any shotgun powder in central Iowa for quite some time. Optimistic that others are seeing some. |

was in a shop last week. Got all excited when I saw a 4 lb of longshot, that is until I saw the price-179.99. Brought it up to the counter and asked if it was a mistake and was told no. That ain't gonna work! |

Our local Cabela's just opened today, but aside from some Pyrodex pellets, there was not a bit of powder in the store! (Well, I guess all those factory-loaded rounds have powder in them, but they would probably frown on me sitting in the aisle cutting down shells and dumping them in a coffee can....)
Kind of disappointing, there were probably less than ten assorted boxes of 16ga shells anywhere in the store..... and NO slugs among them! |

Anyone willing to buy some PB for me and ship it, or give me a phone number I can call and get them to ship? On the east coast and usual internet sites nothing available I can use. Will of course pay all charges, hazmat incl.
Help! |

Dave,
If you don't mind a bit of a drive, Shyda's in Lebanon county (SE PA) has had PB every time I've been in during the last 6 months. Their number is 717-273-6589. The last time I was there it was $165 for 8lbs. I'm not certain but I don't think they will ship.

Thanks for the tip.
Bought 3 lbs. of PB and will drive over to pick them up...only a couple of hours each way, which is manageable. Who knows, may see a 16 there I can't resist, either. |
