Get your drool bibs out boys! Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time.
This little gem was waiting for me all alone on the shelf when I walked into my local gunshop with a pocket full of Benjamins.
16 gauge (of course), 28 inch barrels, double triggers, extractors, Double ivory beads, beavertail forend (custom wood), pistol grip with checkered butt.
Engraved on the bottom of the receiver was "C DIXON" .
Charles "Greg" Dixon is the owner Dixon's muzzleloaders in Kempton, Pennsylvania. A call to them verified that it was one of theirs and that they used to do that kind of custom work back in the day but stopped in the late 1990's. I asked about having some additional custom touches added to it and they told me that 1) He does not do that type of work anymore and 2) Even if he did it would take him years to get to it. Oh well. My only concern is that it still appears in the "white" and may need to be case colored or it could be prone to rusting. I'll be having that checked out soon.
Anyway this is it and the pictures do not do it justice. I do not think it was ever fired after it was completed.
It is a keeper for sure. I can't wait to shoot the heck out of it!

I don't mean to hijack my own thread but I also have a very nice LC Smith 4E in 20 gauge.
Kind of on the rare side.

Unfortunately, the barels have most likely been replaced at some time by someone who had way too much cash to burn.
That's what makes it a 4 figure gun instead of a 5 figure gun. |

Oh my, what a nice looking firearm. Fabulous wood and fit to finish. That's a keeper. Want to make a profit?

I think I'll be keeping this one for a while.
This is my 4th Smith, 2nd 16. I've also got 16 FW Field & 20 gauge FW Field in addition to the 4E 20.
I seem to have accumulted a few LC's lately and I fancy myself a Fox guy! |

I thought I'd update this old post.
About a year ago i bought this partilly finished LC Smith 16 "In the White".
I came up with a budget and decided to try to get an engraver to finish the job.
Here are the results before it goes off to get case colored. My apologies in advance to LC Smith purists bacaue I know it is a conglomeration of different styles and also a good deal of creative license, but I like it and I hope you do too.

Thought I'd finish this off by showing how it looked when it was delivered to my house after getting case colored.
I'm very pleased and the pictures do not do it justice.

I had no direct dealings with him. My engraver sent it out to him but this is who I was told did the work.
