MOST OF THE TIME WE HUNT OUT OF A BLIND IN THE TIMBER. THE SHOTS WE TAKE ARE MOSTLY AROUND 15-25 YARDS. I PLAN ON USING MY SWEET SIXTEEN AND MY 48 SPORTSMAN BOTH HAVE 28" MOD BARRELS. I HAVE A LEE RELOADER AND I PLAN ON USING NICE SHOT. I WANT A 2 3/4 LOAD THAT WILL KILL DUCK BUT NOT POUND MY OLD GUNS TO BAD. SO WHAT HAS WORKED FOR YOU DUCK HUNTERS. SIZE OF SHOT? OZ. OF SHOT? WAD? POWDER? THANKS, ROBERT

I use the following
Cheddite hull
Win 209 primer
25 grains of longshot
BPI SG 16 wad
1 1/8 oz of shot.

1295 FPS, pressure around 9200 with lead, so plenty of room in the pressure area. They say add 1500 for Nice shot.

With shots at 15-25 yards you should be fine with 5s and 6s of Nice shot, and I would consider a skeet or IC choke. That fixed mod choke might be a bit tight, just shoot their heads off!!!! Be sure to save a wing thought LOL

I would even consider using a one ounce load for birds that close. Depends on what powder you have available.

I used this load to kill a mallard dead with one shot at 35+ yards on a river I hunt. Hit it in the head, was stone dead using #6s. That was out of a modified choke, barrel of my 6.25# Marlin 90DT. Did not seem that harsh of a recoil in such a light gun. Patterns nicely out to 40 yards with full and mod chokes in my Marlin and my Poly choked A5 16. So I know your Sweet will eat those up at the heavy spring setting.

Good luck and let us know what you decide on and how you do.
Pictures are required!!!!! Laughing

At 15-25 yards, you might consider loading a spreader load for a mod barrel, should open the pattern to I/C, a better pattern for that range. Reno

As long as you are in a blind and not walking far the Rem wad is fine but for jump shooting the Rem wads can be pretty loose in a number of hulls and have powder migration, lowering shell fps/power. I cut and test fit a number of wads and hulls to see which were a tighter combination. The factory Remington shells have a different (I believe) wad then they sell for reloading.
