Oldhunter, no, I didn't realize that they were Hodgdon's loads. Thanks.
On another note, it pays to check those shot drop weights. I opened a new bag of Rio mag 8's yesterday and I thought my MEC 7/8 oz. bar would probably throw light, but it didn't. 7/8 oz. = 382.8 grains, and my bar was dropping 392-395 grains. |

Just out of curiosity I dropped a couple bushings and loaded a box at 15.2 grs. with the shot dropped with my MEC 7/8 bar (392-395 grs.). i'm going to chronograph a few then burn through the rest as up-bangs with my one-step thrower and see how they shoot.
The wad seems to be a natural fit for 7/8 oz loads in the RGL hull.

Just returned after checking the velocity on this latest tweak of the concoction.
16 ga.RGL Hull
W209
Claybuster CB0078-16 wad
7/8 oz Rio mag 8's (actual 392-395 grs. dropped by my MEC 7/8 oz. bar)
Int. Clays 15.2-15.4 grs. as dropped by my MEC #23 bushing
Velocity
(1166-1178-1176) for an average of 1173 fps
No floops, bloops, and the barrels look the same as the 16.0 gr. charge with very light visible residue. They felt good, seemed consistent, and turned the clays to dust when pointed correctly. I shot 22 loads alternating my Belgian OU and Beretta SxS.
I'm fairly confident that the pressure will check out as safe, but I'm not going to load any more up at any level until I get the pressure data back from Tom Armbrust.

got to admit that is pretty much in line with what claybuster had on their load information so far. Curious to see if the pressure is about the same too. |

When I started this a couple years ago we were still in the shotgun powder drought and I couldn't get International Clays, but I did have Green Dot, so that's what I originally wanted to check out. Now that International Clays is available again I went in that direction because I've used it for so long in 16 gauge loads and that gives me confidence and a level of comfort with it. Had I noticed Hodgdon's data I would have just verified the velocity on my chronograph and called it good. Oh well, we'll be doubly sure about the pressure. Nice to have choices. When FN gets the Green Dot load results we'll be set for 7/8 oz. in RGL hulls. I'm betting that 15 -16 grains of either Green Dot or International Clays will make some fine and safe loads with these components. |

just got my order of CB78 to use in my 2 1/2 RGL hulls with universal powder. I had been using the CB16 wads, but they were not quite right and gave me some funny crimps, but the CB78 gives me great crimps, will see how they shoot in my A5 for skeet. |

Dave, thanks for all the info! Was the clay buster designed off of the R-16?

Matt, I think the Claybuster was started as a slightly modified clone of the Win AA16 wad. Then they added the bump in the shot cup to reduce the payload capacity to 7/8 oz. |

Dave, now that you mentioned it, I think you're right. Your post jogged my memory. I also seem to remember that the Win AA16 and the R-16 were pretty much interchangeable. I've got a BUNCH of R16's I'd like to start using.
Thanks again!
