Tom called with results today. I'd say above and beyond service for the 4th of July!

Anyway, he is sending the results, but he gave me the basic numbers over the phone.

The tested load was:

Rem. Game Load Hull
CB0078 wad
16.0 gr. International Clays
W209 primer
7/8 oz. West Coast Mag 8's

They averaged 1250 fps with a variation of 18 fps.

The pressure was 10,666 psi with a variation of 800 psi.

Tom said plenty safe for a modern shotgun and i agree. I'm going to pick a powder bushing that gets me close, but not over 16 grains. Lots of options for lowering the velocity and pressure.

Valuable service, would be in line with claybuster data. There 15.6 at 1200 and 10500 is pretty close to your results. Feel better about using their data now (especially since I use that exact combo as my go to 7/8 oz load). Typically at bit less powder but every thing else.

I also got a call from Tom. Thanks to Pastor Charlie I loaded and tested:
Green Dot 16.3g.
Herter hull 2 3/4" Chedite I think.
7/8 oz #8 shot
Winchester Primer
The new CB0078-16 wad with the dimple
Velocity around 1150
psi just under 8200

I will post exact data sheet when I get it in the mail.

I hope this helps those who want to shoot older and lighter guns especially at claygames.

How did your crimps look? I tried that wad in Cheddite 2.75" hulls, 7/8 oz shot with American Select and got poor, dished crimps. It made a nice 1 ounce load. Claybuster claims they have increased the diameter of the bottom of this wad to work better in straight walled hulls.
In my hands the Claybuster wads both work great in RGL and Win CF hulls, but not in straight walled hulls. This is NOT an endorsement of the CF hull as the greatest thing since sliced bread. I simply have a couple hundred to play with.

I was wondering about the crimps also , curious to see how consistent the load is . Was going to put some of those together last night but never got the time .

They might work fine in a 2 1/2" SW hull but I'd still be concern about powder migration when carrying them for hunting . The Dr wad is better for that purpose IMO .

I made those loads with a 600Jr. I was able to adjust to get pretty good crimps after putting two cheerios in the bottom of the wad before dropping shot. I also have a MEC9000 and was not able to get it to work well. One reason is I cannot get the cheerios into the bottom of the wad but only on top of the shot. It is an old one I picked up used and although I know how to adjust it I think it needs an overhaul by MEC. The quality of the hulls also don't compare to even the 12g. gun clubs.

I wanted this load for sporting clays since all of my 16g. guns are light. I would not use this load for hunting. I prefer a 1 ounce load for that. My Sterlingworth is 6 pounds even and is awesome on wild pheasant with one ounce of #6. I am not recoil sensitive but 100 shots of that would hurt real bad.

Builder , thanks for sharing the load . While I might not use it as it is , if I have the need I would try it in a 2 1/2 " hull without the filler . I am sure others will find it useful also . Always good to have more tested data for the 16ga.

I shot a sporting clays shoot with this load in my CZ Ringneck this morning and the targets broke well. I can't blame any of the unbroken targets on the light load Embarassed

I had to settle for 82x100 this morning but had a good time. Of course being the only shooter out the with a sxs and a 16 makes me proud to do well. Smile

Byron, awesome shooting regardless of the type of gun you were shooting. Which load were you referring to?

I was referring to the load that this particular piece is about. Used 16ga of International and the CB0100 wad with 7/8oz of 8's. I used the 1oz wad because that is what I have on hand. I placed a couple of pinto beans on top of the shot to fill out the cup. At 20 yards the pinto beans are still in the middle of the pattern when I tested it on the patterning board.
