Hey Nick , happy holidays !...Down Range told me the same thing when I started this thread ... Use 8.5 shot instead of 9 mainly because it's more reliable to get ... 23 grams has been my main 12/16 load for quite a while now ...Can't get a turkey on the property during the season to test the loads , always the day AFTER ! Hope mom and Peach are doing good - hopefully one more trip ! bill |

Please explain about making hulls. What do you have in mind? would it be all plastic? I had an idea about making hulls the same way that soda bottles are made. Couldn't get any backers. |

If it is possible to make a hull that can be reloaded 75 times, and I do not doubt it, can someone convince Remington to make us a run of those hulls? I know they would not be cheap, but at least I wouldn't have to search for hulls every year! Even a standard STS hull in 16 ga would be a life saver- they already make the hull. Just make it with a better, longer lasting plastic! |

#9 shot ( I shoot this exclusively now for all things) will do it all. (THANK YOU BILL HANUS)
Ole Ben and I come to the conclusion that 13/16 OZ of shot was the perfect load for Upland shooting. Even better than my beloved 3/4 OZ.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!!!!!

Care to share any load data for those light super fast loads? |

rdja,
Get the BPI 16 gauge manual. It has light loads going up to over 1700 fps.

Hulls cannot be made by blowmolding. ( I paid money to find this out so I know a bit about this ) The big guys care not about us 16 bore shooters.
Sorry about not sharing data. The dang attorneys tell me it is taboo for me to do so.
Thanks everyone.

Oh now that Ole Ben and Ron Thrash are no longer with us, I do not have to uphold a promise not to tell the stories about the big companies jerking us around.
Over the winter I will set down and type it all out in Word and paste it here , Shotgun World, Shooting Sportsman. And just forget about Upland Journal for it would just be removed before it was an hour old.

Thanks Nick for your information, and I am looking forward to seeing what you have to say on the big companies.
I bought a case of the DR16's from Downrange a couple years ago, and since I am impatiently waiting to get my side by side Fox and my side by side Sauer & Sohn hammer guns back, have only loaded them for a buddy and for my Remington model 31.
I think they are great from skeet through longer range trap.
13/16 ounce huh? Hmmm; if YOU say they are really good, I will believe it.

Happy Holidays Nick. Hope you and yours are all doing just fine.
I've been aware that two (and maybe three) of our biggest domestic gun and ammo manufacturers have had a policy of "planned obsolescence" for our favorite gauge for decades. The problem is, not everyone is on board with their policies, and the rest don't care.
I know I'm not. I know you're not either. Neither is Browning. I'll bet that last one sticks tight in some corporate craws. TDB ain't it.
Blow the whistle on 'em Nick, and let the chips fall where they may--and good on you for doing it. |

OK , just got off the phone with the Downrange Rep ... They are sched to go in 2 wks . Sez the molds ready and the materials just showed up . He got a little warmed up when I told him they were kinda opening up the fields for other wads which are sneeking in such as the Claybuster . Said they've been running their A**e* of since before X-mas and just can't open up 2weeks to run them . Sounds a lot like the ammo co's about running small ga shells . Run them on wkends etc cause there isn't a demand , but if they WERE run more often , they would be less expensive and MORE demand ! We're being patient Nick ! |
