Another 16er and I were discussing options and thought this might be helpful for someone with a 2 and 1/2" (65mm) gun:

B&P shells are 67mm but used in 2 and 1/2" chambers without reported problems
https://www.bandpusa.com/Shopping/product_selection.php
F2 CLASSIC 16 Size 4, 5, 6, and 7 available
Lead: 1 1/16 oz.
Case: 67mm. (2.62 in.)
FPS: 1280
The F2 Classic is NOT a low pressure load at almost 10,000 PSI

LOW PRESSURE LOADS:

ELEY GRAND PRIX 16 ga. 2¾ Dram 15/16 oz #5UK Fiber Wad, 1225fps
Price: $85.90
With uncompromising quality Eley have introduced a line of 67.5mm loads for 21/2" or larger chambers to suit the 16 bore hunter with high antimony shot and hard hitting performance. This load utilizes a Plastic Hull and the Eley KLEENA Fiber Wad in UK#5 (equivalent to a US #6 shot)
http://65.36.235.175/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=ES&Category_Code=16ETG

Polywad Vintager
16 Gauge, #6 Shot, 2-1/2"
Vintager-XXTRA, Buffered "BioWad"
(Case of 250) Vintager 2-1/2" 16 Gauge Shotshells - Low Recoil Low Pressure
24 Gm (about 7/8 oz.), #6 Shot, 2-1/4 Dram Equivalent

RST has both 7/8 oz. and 1 oz. loads in 5s and 6s available.
http://www.rstshells.com/shells-best.htm

Unfortunately, saying 'use what patterns best in your gun' doesn't work because most of these shells can only be purchased by the case. Also be aware that 'it's on the website' and 'sure it's in stock' are not the same thing. Confused

I contacted RST a while back. They had 6's and 7.5's in stock. They assured me they would have 5's for the fall bird seasons.

I've used their 6's and some of their 7.5's on pheasants. Very good results from my Merkel, Sterly, and Citori Feather. The Citori is the only one with tubes.

Drew, one correction and one addition to your list.

The Poly-Wad XXTRA buffered load is 2 1/2 DE and I talked to Alex Papp at RST and he told me they would have #7 shot in 16 gauge available about the end of Sept. and they already have them in 20 gauge. Not sure yet if they will offer them in both the 7/8 oz. and 1 oz. loads. All Alex said was they would have some 16 gauge shells available around the end of Sept. with #7 shot. I asked him but haven't heard back yet.

I think everyone should call and order those shells just to make sure they are motivated to follow through. (chukar season opens the second weekend in Oct. in Oregon Wink ) I already ordered a case of each or whatever they come up with.

In the Eley line, I'd probably go with the VIP's--they're 2 1/2" 1 oz loads vs 15/16. You do have to watch shot sizes with Brit shells. They come in 6's and 7's, but those are British sizes. Their 6's are close to our 7's (about 6 2/3, 270 to the ounce) and their 7's are essentially our 7 1/2's.

I used the B&P 29 gram loads both 7's and 6's (their 7's are like ours; their 6's a bit undersized, more like 6 1/2) a couple years ago with excellent results. But as noted above, they are not pussycats when it comes to velocity and recoil.

I should have included the Polywad Spreader 2 1/2" load for those tightly choked classic 16s

The RST's are $85 a flat for both the 7/8 and 1 oz loadings. There is a discount for the purchase of 20 flats or more.

Alex and Morris of RST were grouse hunting here in northern MN and delivered my #5 2 1/2 in shell to me. I tried them on the shooting preserve the next day and they performed superbly on pheasants.

The also gave me a few samples of their new PAPER 2 1/2" 16s in 8 1/2, 7 1/2 and 7 shot. So far these shells have been used to harvest a limit of grouse and woodcock. I love them. i saved one of each for a quick trip to the pattern board. (Didn't want to wast them on anything but birds.) they did well. I even used the # 7s for a few preserve quail and a pheasant. Fantastic.

I'll be the first to order some when they become available to the general public. Plus these guys are true gentlemen and hunters. A pleasure to deal with and really go out there and use their produce. Plus they shoot 16s!!!

Good luck.

I was searching for 2 1/2" shells to feed my 20gauge thomas Bland, after a long and fruitless search I discovered 10 boxes of shells made by lyalvale Express in the UK.

I found their web site www.lyalvaleexpress.com.

they manufacture a full range of shells both for clays and game but most importantly ,2 1/2" shell in most gauges.
check out their site

good shooting

Lyalvale makes the shells sold by Westley Richards USA, including 16s.

I used a bunch of 2.5" RST #6's today and took 25 pheasants without a problem. Another guy in our group was using the same ammo. Very Happy

I used the last of my RST Paper 2 1/2" #7 "demo" cartridges at the shooting preserve last Sunday on quail and pheasants.

They simply crushed the quail and did a great job on the pheasants.

Wish I had a bunch more!!!

I also picked up some 2 1/2" #5, 1 oz. loads from the RST line. They worked great on the pheasants. I'll get a chance to use them on wild birds soon and I'm looking forward to that.

Hi Guys
I hope I didn't give you a bum steer on the lyalvale express web page

try www.lyalvaleexpress.com/UK that will get you to the UK site then go to Game . that should get you there.

I tried the site that wildweasel supplied and that is the US site which doesn't list the 16 Ga shells
they make 2 shells in 2 1/2"
1 game fibre 7/8 oz 2 1/2" 1350 fps
2 plastic 1 oz 2 1/2" 1375 fps

I'm sure if you pester the US agent they will bring them in for you
good shooting
