I just bought bought my first flat of Herter's at Cabela's in Hartford. Being from NY we can no longer have ammo shipped so this was my first opportunity. Good price, plenty in stock (a whole pallet), and the right color. Can't wait to try them out.

Hulls sure look like Cheddite to me is this correct??

Joe

Someone with 1st had experience will be along to answer your question, but from the previous post I have gleemed, they are in fact cheddite hulls and maybe loaded the same as the winchester cheddites.

They are Cheddite hulls, loaded for Cabelas in Italy under the Herter's brand name. There was some discussion on a prior thread what their wad was but I can't remember what conclusion we reached on that.

Thanks for the info. If they are cheddite that's good enough for me. I don't care about the wad can't reuse it so its gone. If the shell goes bang I'm happy to have the purple hulls. Biggest problem is now keeping them separate from the feds.

I have shot about a flat of them in #8 shot. They performed very well.
How ever, I had a lot of splits in the crimp area after just a couple of reloads.
Great loaded shell, not so great for reloading.

I use the once fired hulls for cutting to 2.5" shorts for my A-5 . they crimp so well that the look like factory ammo. The next loadings work well because I put a shallow skiv on the mouth not a long cut like the original skiv.

SO, I THERE A CONSENSUS. DO THE HULLS USUALLY SPLIT ALONG THE CRIMP? NO TA BIGGIE SINCE I NEED A SUPPLY OF FOR 2.5" AS WELL, BUT COULD IT BE YOUR COLDER CLIMATE. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH REM GAME LOADS IN COLD WEATHER??
