Hi guys ... does anyone out there actually have any data for these . I can do 11/4 pretty easy , but I don't think I've ever seen a load for these . Curiosity is just killing the cat here as I don't really have a gun I'd subject to these ... MAYBE ONE or TWO !!?? |

I have never seen 1 3/8 oz. load data from a reliable source.
I have tried it and to be honest, you are shoving a lot of lead into a 16 Gauge hull. The finished shells look a bit pregnant. Maybe if we had access to an honest 16 Gauge wad for steel........ |

If you need that much power, why not use a 12 or 10 gauge shotgun?

If you have to ask you just are not a 16 gauge cool dude. 10 or 12 that's sacrilege. I probably shot some 1 3/8 way back when lead was legal for ducks and geese. I used to hunt fox's with 16 gauge and #2's also. I can remember shooting geese with lead 2's they would just stone them. 10 or 12 you gotta be kidding me Skeettx wake up would ya. |

Guilty, I am NOT a cool dude, never have been !
The real 16 gauge charm is a light gun that is easy to
carry. The 1 3/8 ounce stuff is NOT pleasant.
If you have to be maimed to be a cool dude, I will cease my quest
Question, so if I load up 2 ounces of shot in a 16 gauge hull, I will be a cooler dude?? |

guys guys guys - you are preaching to the choirmaster when it comes to recoil - ya know the OUCH factor !! . I'm just trying to assemble the whole series of shells that are 16ga useable for me to kinda put on a shelf in front of me to GAUCK at ... 5/8 thru 13/8 . If I fall on a load , it will probably be a RC load - the reg mags fit quite nicely in a FED .(5/8 , 3/4 , 23gm , 7/8 , 1 , 11/8 , 11/4 , 13/8 ) |

I have never seen factory 16 gauge loads in 2 3/4" that have 1 3/8 oz. of shot in them. Who made them and when?
I do have to agree that the 16 Gauge is no place for loads that heavy.........and I am not a big advocate for light loads but..........I think there is a limit in every gauge. |

DC- I don't disagree !! this is one of those hunts like for Sasquatch . I believe some of the guys have posted them before(the boxes) . I have never seen a load although I do believe they are out there . Not really interested in shooting them much - just are they viable !!?? ... BD - it would be nice if you PM'D that load to check out . |

Don Zutz had a load for a 1 3/8 magnum in the 16 gauge in one of the ABC's of Reloading editions.
The only one I can find, currently, is BPI data:
Cheddite Hull 2.75"
1.375 oz. Nickle Plated #6
VP80 Wad (4) Slits & Mica Dusted
25 grains STEEL powder
Cheddite 209 primer
11,300 psi
1,250 FPS |

Fun stuff 16D, I know the quest is just for the heck of it so to add to the equation/musing, walking backwards through the 96 rule math, the gun would need to be in the #8.25 range + a Sam's Club bottle of Advil.... |

Pretty sure I have some factory Winchesters would have to dig through some stuff. As far as the 1 3/8 loads I was kidding some of you guy's are so dang dry I'm surprised you don't crumble. Take a look around your not that important life's short have some fun. When i did shoot the 1 1/4 oz back in the 80's with lead they worked just fine and killed what they hit. 14-15 years old with an 1100 had to have the big load for pheasants and waterfowl. Too bad we don't have anymore Pheasants. Was not selling the big load just having some fun. |
