I wasn't lucky enough to get out early this fall to chase sharptails, as I was packing and moving into a new house. Did manage to get out around early November a few times to chase roosters about, and another time here just before Christmas. Had a great time on each outing.
Remington M11 Sportsman, solid rib, modified choke:
Browning Citori, 28" barrels:
My dog is not a trained hunting dog, but for being pressed into service, is coming along. This last outing, I winged a rudy that landed in a hay meadow. She saw him come down and things clicked. Just as I was about to dust him, I saw her coming on like a rocket out of the corner of my eye and let her do the rundown. When she caught him there was just an eruption of feathers. She lost her grip, which allowed him to squirt ahead. She hit the afterburners and caught him again - only to pull out his tail feathers. Third time was the charm though, and with a good solid grip on him, she hauled him back to me.
You can see the tail feathers in a pile straight behind her, the bird and gun sitting about where she finished the chase to her left, eruption of feathes in foreground.
Season closes here in ND the first weekend in January, and I'm hoping to get out once more before then. Got myself a Christmas present, with which I hope to be able to wring out my Winchester 97:
Hopefully, it can star in a few action-hero shots, too.

I we'll remember when a case of shells was 20 boxes, then ten, called a "flat". I was disheartened when I got my first B&P flat of eight boxes. I guess we are headed to the six pack. Reno |
