sr7625 is great for 1oz loads in 16ga with the right Hull , Wad combination . I also use it with great success for low pressure 7/8 oz loads . |

But would 7625 or Unique (another one in my cabinet) be a problem with powder migration with SP16 wads and Federal hulls?
reason I ask is I have the hulls and there are only a few SG-16 and just one or 2 z-16 wad listings on the load spreadsheets for 1 1/8oz.
Thx

Definite problems with 7625; I've not tried Unique with that hull/wad. I use 7625 and Unique in 1 oz loads with straight-walled hulls and the SG-16 wad. Works very well. If you're looking for a 1 1/8 oz load in the Cheddite, Fiocchi or Federal hull with the SP16 wad, I'd recommend either 800-X or Blue Dot. These powders will allow you to get some 1250+ fps velocities if that is a consideration for you, and migration will be less of an issue. |

Jon,
I agree with the others. I would not use Unique or 7625 for SP16 in Cheddite, Federal, or Fiocchi based on what I have heard in the past. I would stick to 800x or Blue Dot as well. In Remington hulls I would use any powder without concern.
800x seems to be one of the easiest powders for me to find.
Here are a few to use up your 7625 using your SP16:
Remington 1 oz SR 7625 22.0 Rem 209STS Rem SP-16 1277 10,400 Lymans 5th
Remington 1-1/8 oz. SR 7625 22.0 Rem 209STS Rem SP-16 1200 11,000 IMR
Remington 1-1/8 oz. SR 7625 20.0 Win 209 Rem SP-16 1200 10,600 Lyman 4th |

Just FYI, I have found my favorite 1 1/8 oz loads are SP16 with Federal hulls using 800x:
Federal 1-1/8 oz. 800X 22.5 Fed 209A Rem SP-16 1300 11,000 Hodgdon Web
Federal 1-1/8 oz. 800X 24.5 Rem 209STS Rem SP-16 1300 10,100 Hodgdon Web
Federal 1-1/8 oz. 800X 22.5 Win 209 Rem SP-16 1300 10,800 Hodgdon Web
800x apparently works well in cold weather (which I have to deal with), makes a good 1 1/8 oz powder, works well with SP16, and gives me enough speed to be good for anything from Turkey down to small game.
The only down side to 800x I have found is it does not meter well, but since I hand measure every load, it's not an issue for me. |

Thanks again all for great help. Learning fast!
I'll stick with using my supply of 7625 for my Remington green hulls and SP-16 wads and use something else for my supply of Federal hulls.
Appreciate this great resource.

Hodgdon 800 X.
As is well known here, all Hodgdon powders are out most places, some hopefully getting restocked after the Shot show.
But I can't find 800 X on the Graf, Widener, PR, or BPI websites to even add to the wish list??? |

IMR Hi-Skor 800x
I usually purchase it in 1 pound containers at either Scheels or local gun supply stores. |

I managed to find some to add to wish list at Grafs. Weird but I couldn't find it or missed the first time. Google is my friend. |

For those that sit or do not walk much powder migration -probably- will not be a problem. It is the constant jiggling and bouncing that seems to move powder up into the wad.
Had my first 'blooper' from powder migration when hunting the edge of a canal with my dog and Model 12 16 gauge.
Had a group of about 30 Geese flying low level straight up the canal. Dog froze. I froze. Geese kept coming. I pulled up and was certain (in my mind) of a double at least. pulled the trigger and got a 'FOOF' and did not see the wad come out. I watched the Geese fly away.
Opened up one shell after hearing shot rattling around loose when I shook it. Opened ALL of them when I got home.
Really sucked.I now have various brand cut off hulls and try wads in them to find the best fit then go looking for a load that will work. |
