I was looking to get a new loading manual, but was just wondering your opinion on which one to get. I was leaning toward the Lyman 5th edition, or reloading for shotgunners. Or is there a better manual? Also any input on the frankford arsenal 750 grain powder scale? I believe the model is a ds-750. |

I own several different manuals and think that the Lyman manual is the best. |

What are you hoping to get from a manual? If you are looking for 16 gauge recipes, neither is of much use. If you are just getting started in reloading, then either would be helpful. The forums are helpful for sorting out issues. |

Ballistic products has a 16 gauge manual. It lists a lot of recipes but few on Winchester, Remington or Federal. |

The BPI manual only covers their components. Lyman 5th is good for general instructions but is limited on loads. The Hodgden and Alliant sites aren't much help for 16 ga data either. The 16 ga loaders group is the best bet for data. |

IMO;
General knowledge & great starter reloading info, Lymans
16ga recipes, signature line/link in oldhunter posts
Scale, most I've seen get the job done, if foresee ever getting into large cap 12 &/or 10ga reloading for Waterfowl or Turkey get one that measures up to 1k grains.
Published 24ga recipes, Reloading For Shotgunners
I have a spare/older edition (think 4th??) of the BPI 16a manual, if you would like it, PM w/address and I'll pass it along when I get the chance. |

I agree that the Lyman manual is a great manual for a new reloader as the first chapters are important reading. I do find it helpful to take one of every type hull I have and to cut it open on one side so I can easily see what the inside looks like and match it up with the hull pictures and descriptions in the front of the manual as they tend to call the hulls by names other than the Sub Brand. I.E. Remington Straight Wall etc. rather then Remington Gun Club.

The 8th edition has a few others besides the Fiocchi, chedite and Rio. Darn few but if you look close they are there. Just an FYI. |

True. But all the wads are only their in house stuff. I have the 8th and it is useful, but I don't much buy their wads as they they rarely if ever show up in the Alliant/Hodgden site. Many are Gualandi wads but its a pain to scratch around and try decode what they are. |

RCBS has a text manual as well. Comparable to Lyman's or Reloading for Shotgunners. |
