Well Gents,
Wondering if anyone else is seeing what I am on the Fiocchi Game & Target hulls. I purchase the blue fiocchi hulls (http://www.ballisticproducts.com/Fiocchi-16ga-275-new_primed-hull-8mm-bag_100/productinfo/064166708/) from ballistic products new/primed and easily get four-six reloads out of them.
I purchased a lot of once fired fiocchi game & target hulls (see hulls here: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1836238526/fiocchi-dove-and-target-ammunition-16-gauge-2-3-4-1-oz-7-1-2-shot) , and during the de-priming phase, the hull is already splitting at the folds....
I am baffled by this. Other than the once fired hulls having words on the side (just like every store bought round), I see ZERO difference in their construction.
Am I crazy, or have others seen this also?
Happy shooting,[/img] |

Hello
My only response is that MAYBE the ammo had been around a while and the hulls age hardened.
The hulls are new, and not under stress and live a bit longer

Perhaps.
It is a major bummer for sure. I really thought I scored a good deal when I found them. Such a head scratcher!
Maybe I can cut them down and salvage them..... |

I'm running into the same issue reloading Fiocchi Golden Pheasant hulls that I can guarantee were once fired. The only difference I can see is the crimp I get on the new Cheddites looks like it doesn't take a set as much as the factory stuff. I think the factory crimping somehow weakens the hull at the folds. |

I have no experience with new BP Cheddites, but, like Riflemeister, I've had very poor luck with once-fired Fio Golden Pheasants or HV hulls. I've shot a lot of them through my Citori and BPS, and a high percentage come out of the gun with splits down the side or splits at the base of the crimp. Zero reloads for these. For what it's worth, I have much better luck with other "Cheddite" once-fired hulls, especially PMC's, Rio's and Nobels. |

Are you guys stating that my BPI Fio's are Cheddite? They do not have the normal cheddite brass head with the star.... |

The Fio's & Ched's I have are different in base wad and primer size & for the record I haven't experienced any "premature" splitting. Could this cold snap be causing some of your trouble? |

I've also bought a bunch of Fiocchi once fired hulls and had the same problem. I cut them down to 2 1/2" and it made a world of difference.

I haven't had this problem but I have read of the issue elsewhere but damn if I remember where. I think the proposed cause was some type of sealant used under the crimp. Supposedly it put extra stress on the case mouth when the shell was fired.
For what its worth.

I got 5/6 hundred from a member a while back . 25/8 version . No mouth splitting , but many pulled away from the brass in spots and couldn't be sized without a sizemaster (which I don't have). Mine are peculiar maybe in that they aren't as thin as say a Winchester , but not quite as thick as an RGL . They all may or may not be from the chedd factory , but are the same - straight wall with insert wad . |

Fioochi hulls are not Cheddites. |
