AW yes the Husky Model 20. The Savage 311 of the hammer guns. Cheap and dependable. That's what got me started down this slippery slope. If you can find one a Husky Model 51 top lever will be lighter and better handling. I also have a couple of no name Belgium guns that are nice and nimble. Just have the gun checked out be a competent gunsmith. Watch the Simpson Ltd gun website for bargains. |

I have some Crescent hammer guns in 16ga with steel barrels that are great fun. They were cheap needed a real cleaning but after that are good to go. |

Cheap hammer guns are also a great introduction into the world of working on guns yourself. Ask me how I know this. |

Nasty-G,
Not sure what you mean by inexpensive 16 hammer gun. However L.C. Smith made a real nice 16 Gauge Hammer gun. If you can find one they are seriously nice field guns. I owned one for many years, and would like to have another one myself.
Probably run you about $1,800 - $2,200 today if you can find one.

Do yourself a favor and wait for a clean Husky Model 51. My 12 bore is one of my absolute favorites. Very well built, attractive and handles great. You will be hard pressed to find a better hammer gun anywhere.

Nasty G,
All this talk about 16 Gauge Hammer Guns brought me some luck and I made a deal on an antique Crescent 16 Hammer Gun that I had been looking to acquire for a long time. Now this gun is not expensive, however they are nice old Classic American made double guns.
I thank the man who started the inexpensive 16 Gauge Hammer Gun post very much for making this all happen.
I intend to make the old Crescent Hammer gun one of my Grouse hunting favorites, having foolishly gifted my 1913 L.C. Smith 16 Gauge Hammer Gun to another Grouse Hunter, the Crescent will take its place in my Grouse Gun inventory. Picking up another pre 1913 L.C. Smith Hammer Gun in 16 gauge is pretty tough now. However I am still looking.
Pictures after I receive her and clean her up a might, I intend to refinish the stocks and restore the old Hammer Gun to as new condition.
I also thank the man here on the forum who sold me the gun, I truly appreciate being able to find it after all these years.
The 16 Gauge Forum still top shelf stuff!

My recently acquired 16 Gauge Crescent Antique Hammer Gun arrived in the mail. At over 100 years old she is in really nice shape.
