So I bought 8#s of green dot on a whim mostly because I am tired of everyone telling me they are out of powder and they don't know when they will get more in. So now I need to figure out what to do with it. So I am soliciting peoples favorite loads with green dot. I have a lot of different componets and am not afraid to buy more. Really what I would like is a 2 1/2 inch load in a cheddite hull to replace my favorite PB load with 3/4 oz of shot, but 7/8 oz would be fine. However any load that you have found to perform well would be great. I often shoot a ELSIE exposed hammer double so on the low side of pressure (but not radically so) is perferrable but I do have modern 16 gauges. Thanks in advance. James
PS I am already a member of the low pressure group and the UK reloading group. |

I, too, would be interested in what your favorite load is using Green Dot. I had a pretty good supply going into the drought but my time at the bench has greatly suffered this year.
Now , after having Green Dot turn up in new posts for the last two weeks, I am getting fired up and when May gets here I can count the number of months on one hand till them doves are fair game.
Of course, that is not counting the spring squirrel season (?), I don't have an itch for that but maybe it will come.
Anyway, like the youngsters say on the local forums "Lemme see whatcha got, bud!"
Regards,
Chuck |

This is a load listed in the spreadsheets which I really like.
2 1/2" Fiocchi Hull
FIO 616 Primer
SG 16 Wad
16.5 Gr. Green Dot Powder
7/8 oz shot.
7050 PSI 1,130 FPS
I have a large quantity of Fiocchi hulls I was looking to put to good use. I like the load but the hulls are only good for 1 or 2 reloads, even after cutting them down.
Here is a 3/4 oz load from the spreadsheet which I have not tried yet:
2 1/2" Cheddite hull
Cheddite 209 Primer
SG 16 Wad
15.5 Gr. Green Dot
3/4 oz shot
7,400 PSI 1,177 FPS

Thanks Matt
I will definitely give the cheddite recipe a try. I have no luck with fiocchi hulls. They all split at the crimp either at first firing or the first reload. |

I use the following very low recoil, great patterning recipe in brass hulls, but it is suitable for any 16GA straight walled hull.
7/8oz shot, 16.6 grains Green dot, Win primer, Card wad with fiber filler. |
