I have used this load from BPI
Fed 16 Plas
3/4 oz
Green Dot 22
Fed. 209A
BPI SG 16
1475fps
10,200
I would like to take the speed down on this just a bit. What do you guys think about dropping the Green Dot to 19 gn or 20 gn? Seems like there is enough pressure in the Green Dot to drop the charge and still get a fairly good performing load. |

I don't know about the affect of other components, but I use 16.6 gr of Green dot with either 3/4 or 7/8 oz in loads with Cheddite hulls and DR16 wads. |

Thanks for the input guys! Once I get my wads next week I will try load some up with 16.6 gn Green Dot and take them to the pattern board and see what I have. |

My guess is with that small of a load of powder, an SG16 and 3/4 oz of shot you will not have near enough stack height and your shells will dish in tremendously. I can't make a load like that with 7/8 oz of shot work well in a Federal hull and an SG16. I hope you make it work.
Regards,
Jeff |

16 to 18 grains of Green Dot should be okay for 3/4 and 7/8 ounce loads in a Cheddite hull w/ a Gualandi wad. You can drop a 16 ga nitro card wad on the powder charge under the plastic wad if the crimp height needs adjustment. It should not hurt performance. |

Would it work to trim the hull and load it as a 2.5" shell instead? Does the shorter shell effect pressures? |

If all else remains equal and there are no changes to the configuration of the combustion chamber formed by the wad base configuration or the configuration of the inside bottom of the hull, then the burning characteristics of a given powder charge under a given shot load weight will not change. All hull length does is effect the capacity of the hull to hold the powder, wad, and shot charge and thusly provide the correct amount of hull mouth necessary for the load to crimp properly.
Things that influence average peak load pressures are as follows:
the powder charge weight, switching to a different powder, the shot charge weight, the primer type, the wad type (base configuration), the hull type (internal configuration), the crimp type (rolled or folded), and uniform crimp firmness (quality). |
