Should I be saving them for reloading? I don't reload now, but I can see a need to in the future. Thanks. |

Yes and save EVERY 16 gauge hull
Some of the less valued hulls can be used in pumps and autos at the target range and left.
Of course, always use you BEST when hunting and no alibis

Thanks Skeettx. My plan is to continue to buy hunting loads and use those hulls to reload for clays (commercial 16ga. target loads are not sold in Canada, AFAIK). |

I don't think your problem is found only in Canada. It's everywhere. The 16 guage hasn't been recognized as a target gauge in any of the registered shotgun games for at least 50 years. I haven't seen or heard of a 16 gauge target load being offered by any manufacturer for a very long time either. The 16 is strictly considered to be hunting gauge by the commercial market.
More's the pity. Using 3/4 and 7/8 ounce loads to shoot any of today's target games with an average weight 16 gauge field gun is lots of fun. Recoil is easily managed, and the pain free practice really helps when hunting season rolls around. It's a win, win.
The only solution available to most of us is to buy the lightest available #7.5, #8, or the far more hard to find #9 hunting loads (don't even know if they exist) and use them for recreational target shooting. In the States, we find mostly 1 ounce promo grade loads available. I think one or two of the European ammo brands might offer 7/8 or 15/16 ounce field ammo. I've never seen or heard of any 3/4 ounce commecial loads being offered anywhere by any company.
The best we 16 gauge folks can do now is to save the hulls and reload our own 3/4 or 7/8 ounce loads. That's how the the vast majority of us get them. Good luck. It's well worth the effort IMO. |

Never save 16 ga. hulls. Send them to me for "proper disposal"...preferably by the 1000! |
