Does anybody know if ITX can be substituted in lead loads like Niceshot can ? Using lead shot wads and Data - 1500 psi . It weighs about the same as Niceshot and is soft enough to shoot through older barrels . so I am thinking it should work.????
Off the spread sheets these two tested loads are pretty much identical .

Does anyone else have any that suggest the same ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I haven't tried ITX, but from looking at the advertisements for it, I consider it too hard to be used in any of my guns, where as Nice, Hevi-shot Classic Double & TM work without problem. |

There are two types of shot sold as ITX by Ballistic Products Inc: ITX Original-10, and ITX Extreme-13, the numbers pertaining to the purported density of the material. Original-10 is purported to be OK for barrels, while Extreme-13 is super hard and barrel protection is advised.
Original-10 is more like NiceShot. My measurements show the pellets I purchased to be 10.8 grams per cubic centimeter! -- about the same density as high-antimony lead shot. I found Extreme-13 to be only 12 grams per cubic centimeter -- in my opinion, not enough potential performance improvement over Original-10 to compensate for the disadvantages of higher hardness and cost.
I loaded both in 16 ga. for waterfowling with an old Model 12 I had Mike Orlen take out to about .005" choke. I did shoot some ducks with those shells last year, but I haven't shot ITX a lot. I extrapolated from lead shot loads with Original-10, and with Extreme-13 I used data for some Hevi-Shot loads. I know, I know . . . I'm a bad boy for doing that , but I'm a long way from blowing up a Model 12 (where's the emoticon for "whistling in the dark"?). |

I just don't believe that you can not use ITX 13 where steel shot is ok . Also , with wads like the Herter's , any load that is weight/weight out to be fine if the shot is enclosed . What can work in your favor is slowing a load works better for turkeys , but the tougher end is speeding up for waterfowl . |

Not concerned with the ITX13
Just trying to get a comparison between ITX10 and niceshot , guess I should have specified .
Did not know that ITX 10 was harder than Niceshot , seems to be a lot harder . |

Mark,
Not much help, but I myself was thinking this exact thing recently. I didn't ask the question, but did compare my cost options.
$67.40 for 2.2 lbs of nice shot ($33.70 per lb)
$164.78 for 7 lbs of ITX10 ($23.54 per lb)
I have read before people questioning the consistency of patterns for ITX since it is not circular, however, I've not seen the testing results only the suggested concern. |

You might want to give BPI a call as they would be best to answer ITX related questions.
If you do a search there should be previous discussion threads on ITX, Nice Shot and Bismuth. I could be mistaken but I thought we discussed the differences maybe a year or two ago. |

I shoot Original ITX-10 in my old guns without any concerns. It has similar density of lead. The pellets flatten about the same as 5% Antimony lead in my arbor press. Not cheap but not as expensive to shoot as some nontoxic options. It is magnetic. I've been pleased with kills of pheasants and ducks. I like size #4 quite well. |

I have noticed the Nice Shot forum on shotgun world is gone. Website still up but nothing in stock. Anyone know if Nice shot is going to continue??
RSI sell E-shot which they claim is barrel friendly, they also have a heavyweight shot that is not so barrel friendly. |

Two days ago Niceshot was still on SW .
Never shot any E shot but , I did buy some ,when I did a crush test with a pair of pliers , It is quit soft and it breaks all apart, very fragmentable .
The guy from RSI said you have run it really fast to keep it from doing that , but I feel it will fragment when it hits anything solid like bone. |

I bought a bag of #4 E-shot with a manual. The only loads I can find are 12 ga and 3" 20 ga. Who needs 3" in a 20 or 12??
I will make you a deal if you want it. My cost was $215. for the shot, I'll throw the manual in for nothing. Make me an offer!! |
