Used four boxes of factory RGL's on Sat. and found the boxes were mixed with two different types of primers. Some had what appeared to be W209 and the majority were whatever Remington loads with. Some went bang others went BANG. Anybody else seen this? |

Your experience fits in with something I've been aware of for a while now. Remington hires out production of their promo grade ammo and components to the lowest bidding foreign manufacturers. The actual manufacturers use those components they can get the cheapest.
Apparently Remington promo grade 16 ga. ammo is presently being made in Mexico for now from what I've gathered (this might have changed by now). I don't believe this example of poor quality should be taken as an accurate assessment of the level of quality which can be produced there. Cheap and shoddy can be made anywhere if the contracted price does not offer enough for better quality. It's not the contracted manufacturer's reputation that's going in the crapper.
I'd say Remington management believes that quality be damned as long as profits are okay. Who cares if the primers look different in the 16 ga promo grade ammo as long as they go bang. Remington does not think much of the gauge or the folks who shoot it anyway. So what else is new. |
