I have
Long shot powder
8 shot lead
Pre primed Cheddite 2 3/4 hulls
Sp16 wads
Is this the makings for a low pressure target load, and what is the formula to do so with this combination.

clay,
I would be interested what feedback you get. I've kind of followed the rule that sp16 + Ched hulls must be reserved for loads created with powders that are larger and less likely to lead to powder migration issues (800x or a Dot being the most common option). |

| I use clear hulls. I have not seen any problem using LS with the WAA 16 clone or the z-16 or the gulandi 16. Remington wads are for Remington hulls |

The burning rate of Longshot is designed for heavier hunting loads. I don't think you can get the best results when average load pressures drop below 9K psi when using slower burning powders.
I think you would do very well with Green Dot for loading light duty 3/4 ounce target loads meant for shooting vintage shotguns. You don't need an ounce of shot to crush clay targets or to take smaller game birds or early season pheasant. 15.5 to 16 grains of Green Dot works very well for most 3/4 or 7/8 ounce loading applications. Pressure will be below 9K psi for the 3/4 ounce loads. The extra light recoil produced by these light weight loads is a very important consideration for shooting vintage shotguns with old wood on them. |
