Finished the second side yesterday. I am more satisfied with the second attempt and had less issues this time. The two patterns are close but certainly not identical. It a good thing you cant look at them side by side Laughing . I took some more pictures this time at various steps for anyone thinking of doing this. Its not that hard, just tedious.

This is after laying out the master lines with an exacto knife and deepening the cuts.

Spacing out the grooves.

All the lines cut and ready for deepening to sharp diamonds...never mind the over-runs Embarassed . The border hides those...

All done with oil applied...now the dreaded forestock.

I think that looks great. I've got a beautiful 11-48 Forearm that I sanded smooth back when I was a teen. have thought about trying to checker it but am scared I'd mess it up.

practice on scraps of soft wood then hard wood then curved hard wood. learn the pit falls to avoid, whats fixable and what is not.

It took awhile, but I am finally done the forestock. I took my time with it not wanting to screw it up. Checkering on a cylinder is challenging and to make it worse, I left a diamond in the middle without checkering as a "tip of the hat" to the traditional model 12 forestock pattern. Getting it centered and the lines to match up below it took some finagling. I am pleased with it however.

Thanks! I have it back together and love the look. Now I need to turn my attention to the metal. I envy you guys stateside. I would love to be able to easily send it off to Simmons for a rib and re-blue, but things are not that easy here in Canada. I will have to figure something out.

Here she is with my previous refurb. Same basic gun, very different configurations.

Really pleased with these two so far.

Looks great dilly.

Just when I'd made up my mind to sell a project Model 12 that I keep putting off getting done, you have to post this!

Well boys, she is all done! Simmons Guns did a wonderful job with a rib, jewelling. and re-blue. I know -I know, I have way more into this gun than it is worth now, but I wanted a great shooter with a personal touch to hand down the line. This little baby fits the bill for me.

Here are the two brought back to a proud existence...

I took it to North Dakota for its first trip into the field in its new configuration. Turns out the Imp Mod choke with Fiocci "golden pheasant" 1 1/8oz loads work pretty darn well.

So happy with it...
