Picked up some "once fired" assorted hulls.
Fio, Super X-Game Loads, Herters, Nobel's, Rio's and RGL's in the mix. Not a bad price, all things considered.
The RGL's in the mix have crusty, grayish, burnt looking necks.
Upon inspection I find several different colored primers, in the RGL's.
The crimp peddles are not in great shape either, not split but deformed some.
Pretty sure they are at least twice fired.
What do you suppose caused the gray, burnt looking necks and crimps? Hot powder?
Cut one open and the inside looks a little toasted as well.
Any opinions?
Thanks!

I've always assumed that it was the type of plastic used that makes the mouth so brittle. That said, I've loaded my RGLs 3 or 4 times before cutting them down to 65mm and starting over. I'll admit that some of the crimps ain't pretty -- but so far they've all gone BANG!

'Different colored primers' in the RGL's is indicative of reloads, not once-fired. RGL is not the greatest hull for reloading and the gray crusty look is kind of typical. If I get four reloads from an RGL I feel very fortunate.

Can't go by the primers. I have had numerous boxes of factory RGLs with two different style primers in the box.
