I am perfectly happy with the old A5 16ga guns I have right now . But it would be a step in the right direction for us 16ga shooters .

I'd welcome a new scaled-frame, Browning 16 gauge auto. Hats off to Browning for keeping the 16 gauge offerings alive.

I would rather see a Silver in a scaled 16. I love the old a-5"s I have and always shoot them well. The new one appears to be sculpted to imitate the old look but it doesnt have to be fashioned that way, as the old design required the hump. The fact is that if a correctly built 16ga were available yes I would have to buy one.

I too would love to see the new A5 in a Sweet Sixteen as long as it's proportionately scaled down from the 12. I would also hope they use a hard butt plate in lieu of the rubber inflex recoil pad currently being installed on the 12.

I doubt there would be any "scaling" the new A-5's are very light guns. My new a-5 in 12ga weighs less than my sweet 16's now.
Even if Browning just slaps a 16ga barrel on the existing gun, it will be a light weight shotgun. And I will be the owner of at least one.

I welcome it wholeheartedly, although I would really rather see Browning bring back the Double Auto, and put that in 16ga.

New version A5 launched 12G only in 2012. New version A5 Sweet 16 coming 2016...perhaps the 20G will be introduced 2020? The Browning marketing team is either brilliant or lucky...If the trend continues the 28G will be available in 2028, and most of us will be gone by the time the .410 releases in June of 2067...

Scaling is not all about weight. It is also about the width and hieght of the receiver and forearm. Not everybody has hands the size of Russel Wilson's.

I would buy a 'scaled' version, but not a 12 gauge with a 16 ga. pipe.

Hate to break up the love fest. But the original Sweet 16 was build on the 12 gauge frame. That's why they have the spacer or band around the breech end of the barrel to fit the smaller 16 gauge barrel into the 12 gauge breech extension.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I saw the above post. Brian Dudley who is a well respected gunsmith and restoration specialist happened to have a really nice Sweet 16 for sale on the Parker collectors' forum so I asked the question over there. Here's his reply:

No. Separate frame. The reason they introduced the 16g was to offer a lighter gun. And the sweet sixteen was even lighter. The reason Browning held off so long offering a 20g was because they believed they would not be able to save much if any weight with a 20g, so why have less firepower for the same weight?

This may be blasphemy on this site but I have never liked the hump back A-5. I wish they would chamber the Silver in 16 ga.

It's not elegant but my sleek little pre-war 65mm 16 ga A-5 has a short light 25 in. or thereabouts barrel and is nearly the most perfect scattergun I've held or used. The long cycle action is still the best recoil reduction scheme ever made. What a remarkable gun.

We've also got a 20 ga Silver downstairs. the recoil has an unexpected bite to it.

I've never looked into the "new" A5 as I have no interest in another 12 ga semi. Now if they come out with a 16 that comes in at 6 1/2lbs or less, I'm all over it. Always said if Benelli would come out with a 16ga Montefeltro, it would be another have to have.

Sorry I never cared much for the humpback. Now if that would be in a scaled Super-x that would be something.

If it's done right I'll buy a new A5 16 without reservation. I don't look at it through the lens of comparing it to an original Auto-5....those days are long over. The main reason I have my classic old 16 gauge repeaters now is because there hasn't been anything new worth buying. The attempt Remington made some years back with their 870 was awful!

Just finished an enjoyable weekend of duck hunting with my '65 Belgian Light Twelve (with a Jap barrel). I have no problems shooting a humpback.

I have Belgian and Japanese sweet 16, I would be first inline to buy new "Sweet 16"
I have three A-5's in 12ga, a Belgian light 12, a Japanese Mag 12 stalker and one of the New A-5's.

No, the comparison is only in looks, but I like the humpbacks, I bought a Silver several years ago because it was at least "semi-humpback"

If it comes on a slightly scaled frame then all the better. Either way, I will be in.

Not sure what forum the OP saw this on, but was there any other info other than a partial picture of the catalog?
