Wow, what we have here, is a 1937 First Year of regular production Sweet Sixteen. If it's the original barrel it should have 5 holes, not three. The many mods take it out of collector status but it's still a super cool shooter at a rock bottom price.

Someone asked me how this could be a Sweet Sixteen without having the name on the receiver. For those not familiar with the story I'll paste my answer below.

A common misconception. Browning test marketed a specially lightened 16 in 1936 and put into production in 1937. The Sweet Sixteen was identified by its gold plated trigger and safety. It wasn't until 1948 that the name was actually engraved on the receiver. In 1951 it lost its gold safety when the cross bolt design appeared. Unmarked Sweet Sixteens are collectible and known -- at least on Internet forums -- as "Stealth Sixteens" and sometime "Ghost Sixteens".

Although a "shooter" the gun put up for sale is incredibly interesting as a first year production Sweet. And $500 is a very reasonable price for a gun that's had an overhaul by Art's.

I'll add that the very first Sweet Sixteens had 5 lightening holes in the barrel ring instead of 3. The picture is of mine from 1938. And no, I didn't buy it new...

I have always wondered if the A5 is called that because it shoot 5 rounds, if so then why is a 3 shot called an A5? Or is the 5 there for some other reason?

According to S/V, that's how JMB came up with the name for his 5-shot automatic. Later, Marketing determined what to call the variations.

I really can't believe someone has not bought this A5. If someone would buy my sweet sixteen I would buy this "GHOST SIXTEEN".
