Gotta love those mixtures one can drink; I sure do. Try this: 1 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice (please don't use the acid that comes in the green bottle!), 1.5 oz gin (Gordon's is perfect for this), 1/2 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur (a clear sweet liqueur made from the pits of Marasca cherries), and 1/2 oz Crème de Violette (hope you can find it). Shake it vigorously with craked ice (not crushed ice). Pour it into a very cold cocktail glass -- no ice. It's called The Aviation Cocktail as it looks a bit like the color of 115/145 octane aviation fuel. It's a WWI (not WWII) era drink. Enjoy.

The mixture I shot contained Red Dot, Unique, Universal, 20/28, H110, and 2400 -- maybe others, who knows. Somebody disassembled a batch of 12's, 20's, 28's and .410's from the reject bin of a recently deceased locally famous skeet-shooter. Proportions? Can't say, but probably close to 40% H110 and 2400, 50% Unique/Universal/20/28, and 10% Red Dot. I loaded it in the 28; 3/4 oz load -- 13 grains in a Win AAHS case. Shot it in my tube set Perazzi skeet blaster -- strong gun. Seemed to work just like Unique; felt a little milder than normal, could go up to 14 grains I think, but why -- it broke the targets at sporting clays, sure as hell will break skeet targets, but who cares. More fun than burning it in the driveway or burying it in the backyard. There is no point in doing this except disposal. I don't condone it, or advise it. Just though I'd give it a go and let you know what happened. I hope never to do it again. I don't recommend it, of course. Wink

An excellent way to dispose of powder is to burn it in a small coffee can. If you make a nozzle out of pop cans and put it on top you can get a spout of flame 20-40 feet high. At least that's what somebody told me Laughing

The poster almost asks the impossible. He asks for experience in mixing powders then shooting it in ammo. Problem is those who are experienced are no longer with us or mutilated.

Wayne Mayes comes to mind, and when I left a flask of black powder in the field then recovered it I just dumped it on the lawn, unlit.

Don't think I'd drink enough of that aviation gas to try your shells, MS, but if you run out of hard-to-find ingredients and have left-over Maraschino this is a good use for it:

My grandpa said if he couldn't remember if his MEC was filled with green dot or blue dot, he poured it into his green dot bottle and didn't worry about it. The idea being that he couldn't blow up by using a slow powder in place of a faster one, but going the other direction would be bad. He lasted a lot longer than his ability to go outdoors, so he never blew himself up

Of course he was obviously still loading after he became too blind to see the green and blue flakes. Lol.

Okay so i dont have experience in mixing powders but i do have experience in chemistry. Gunpowder has a very specific compound. Its mixed more than your blender mixes your fruity drink with an umbrella or mearly shaking two powders together. To create a useable powder to get specific burn rates the two powders would have to be chemically bonded. Each powder has different burn rates mixing two powders will not create a average burn rate mearly a new powder with its own burn rate.
In other words.... Buy new powder if you want specific results from your powder.

What will happen when it goes off? To quote Homer Simpson: "That's for the sea gulls at the dump to find out".
Sorry, couldn't resist.
