I have been loading shotgun for many years, and 16 gauge for the past 8-10 years. I never have problems getting good crimps with 12, 20, 28 ga, and even with .410, but always have difficulty getting good crimps with 16 ga 2-3/4" hulls, be they cheddite, WW(cheddite), Remington RGL, and Fiocchi.
I am in the market to get new hulls, and was wondering if anyone has had good results using the DR-16 wad in 2-1/2" hulls without needing fillers to get good crimps.
Any suggestions for powder to use for 3/4 oz and 7/8 oz loads would be appreciated also. If it matters, loads will be used in Browning BPS for Skeet and Sporting Clays. |

I have good luck with the DR-16 with Federal and Cheddite hulls.
I use Universal with my 7/8 oz. loads and American Select for my 3/4 oz. loads.
I am going to try 700-X next. To get good crimps with these lighter loads with the DR-16, you have to be willing to adjust the machine and be sure NOT to use any wad pressure. Let the crimp compress that leggy DR-16 wad.
Although I don't shoot a lot of 3/4 oz. loads, I think the DR-16 is perfect for that payload and the loading goes easy.
I only reload 2 3/4" hulls. |

In 2 9/16 cheditte and federal hulls the Dr16 wad works very well for 3/4 oz , 7/8oz not so good . I use the SG16 wad for 7/8oz in the short hulls . Green Dot and International powders for both loads . No fillers needed . |

In 2 1/2" shells the DR 16 does not work well with 7/8 oz loads--works great with 3/4 oz. I use the SG16 for 7/8 loads. I do use and like the DR16 in Rem 2 3/4 " loads. |

I use a lee load all and a mec 600 jr for loading 16 ga and the crimps from the lee look like factory, the mec 600 not so much. this is with using different hulls, wads and shot load |

I use the DR-16 wad in 2 3/4 hulls with 3/4 and 7/8 oz loads and 17.0 gr. of American Select powder. They work well on clay targets. You get about 40 fps more with the 3/4 oz. load and same 17 gr. powder charge.
Good shooting!
