A guy gave me a box of Gamebore 2 1/2 16 ga shells, 1 oz and felt wad. Any one load with a felt wad and is it the best way to reload 1 oz of shot into the short shells? |

Manipulating the solid wad stack height to get the exact load column height (including the powder and shot) for excellent crimps is easy to do. All you need is a supply of solid card wads of different thicknesses. You can also split card wads to adjust the column height as needed.
Real felt wads (as opposed to Feltran or Blue Streak compressed fiber wads) are easily compressed and provide a fairly good bore seal because of it. However, real felt wads require at least one snug fitting nitro card wad between them and the powder charge. Otherwise, the felt wads would probably be scorched and even blown apart when the load is fired. I also suggest using a plastic wad cup of some kind on top of the solid wad stack to contain the shot in the bore. Better patterns will result. Hope my input helps you along. Good luck. |

What 16GG said.
I have been loading card and fiber wads in all brass shells for over 10 bird seasons and couldn't be happier with the results. C&F wads require more time than plastic 1-piece wads, but as implied above, how many reloads do you shoot in a bird season? |
