Kiwicharlin's thread got me wondering... In post-war 2.75" chambered European guns proofed to the 850 bar CIP standard, do we need to think twice about using North American (SAAMI) ammo? Or are we just entertaining ourselves with our own hand-wringing (present company included)?

I gave up on hand-wringing years ago as a total unproductive waste of energy.

I would offer that current ammunition whether US manufacturer's or foreign is normally loaded for industry standard accepted by arms manufacturer's. Handwringing should be a moot point. The only exception to my statement is that European manufacturer's are creating arms rated at a new accepted pressure standard for European arms. Therefore in the International market there is ammo available with higher pressures than SAMMI though safe in these new arms. Remington markets a 12ga. load higher than SAMMI in an ultra velocity load. As Europe has set the market for 16ga.it is doubtful that European manufacturer's would create a product liability issue for a high profile market such as 16ga. ammo. To my knowledge there are no 16ga.arms or ammo being produced capable of higher than CIP or SAMMI US accepted standard. YMMV

The SAAMI methodology is widely used in the US, while C.I.P. is widely used in the mainly European C.I.P. member states. .
