Does anyone know much about 16 gage with a poly choke. I have one that was purchased by my grandfather new in the 50's I think. Not sure how tight to screw it in to start for the full choke. |

The best way is to measure your gun's bore, then just screw the P choke closed until you get about .030" constrictionThat will give a fairly good full pattern in most 16 ga bores. Example: Bore is .668" diameter. .638" at the muzzle will be a full choke setting. There is a choke chart under Announcements at the top of the guns venue on this site. It will give you a good guideline for any choke setting you might need. Scroll around and you'll find it. |

Go to Poly-Choke 's website for the proper instructions.
www.poly-choke.com
You will see that the proper start is at the full choke setting, which is actually pretty much as far as you can screw it down. From there, you select the setting you want, be it Imp Mod, Mod, Imp Cyl, Cyl, or the 2 settings that are even more open than cylinder [if you can believe that!] |

Good advice on screwing the Poly-Choke down before selecting the desired choke setting. My father let his get unscrewed to the point that he actually SHOT IT OFF AND IT FLEW INTO A CREEK!!!!!!! He got it fixed and it still wears its "new" Poly-Choke. That happened to his '59 model A-5 Standard 16 in 1967. Time flies.... |

Thanks for the tips. I went to the club after checking with a caliper. If works great. Tried it at 20 and 30 yds. I could see the pattern just open up. From about 16" to maybe 30". That is nice. I wonder why people turn their noses at these. Maybe just the looks. Sure does not look as clen as a plain barrel. |
