Hi, I just bought my firs 16 GA gun and thought it was time to quit lurking in the shadows and become a member of your forum.
As it says in my profile, I live in Norway. I grew up in the north and have hunted birds (geese and ducks, but first and foremost grouse and rock ptarmigan) and moose since I was 14. That's well over 20 years ago now.
Mostly I've been a 12 GA man, but when my wife, kids and I went to Vienna, Austria for newyear's, she went shopping and the rest of us strolled by a local gunsmith. There I fell in love with a 16 GA SxS and for once blew more money than she did.
It was made in Ferlach, first pressure shot in 1936 and has had one owner before me. He didn't like hunting, it seems, because the gun is tighter than a new Beretta 686 and the blueing is 100%.
The engraving could use some cleaning, but I think it has potential. Also, the woodwork is in dire need of oil, as one might expect.
16 GA ammo is available here, if not as easily as 12 and 20, so I do consider loading myself. I already load for my rifles, but shotgun loading is completely blank to me, so I hope I can pick up a few tips from you guys.
Best regards, |

Very nice! Glad you took the plunge. All the reloading knowledge you will ever need is here so just ask.

Smokeless, welcome, on your first post you have impressed many here. That is one fine looking shotgun. Your wife will get over it.
Much knowledge on this site, so ask freely, and post often.

Hello Smokeless
Welcome on your first posting
She sure is a beautiful gun, well done, well done
Please post often
What do you use for moose?
I do not have a Norwegian firearm
I do have a 11.7 Danish rolling block and a Swedish Husqvarna 12 gauge shotgun and others.
One of my shooting buddies has both a Norwegian Krag and a Rolling Block.

Well. . . now you made me drool on my keyboard. That is a great looking sxs. As others said, we are glad to have you around here. This is THE BEST online shotgunning forum on the web!
My heritage is Norwegian and I have some distant relatives still over there. It would be a bucket list trip to get to the "homeland". Even better to spend a day bird hunting there!
In short! Welcome!!! |

Welcome Smokeless! A Ferlach -- What a great name in which to start with the 16 ga. It's a beauty.
Like many from my original home (North Dakota) I am almost 100% of Norwegian ancestry, and traceable. There was a German (heaven forbid!) in the woodpile who contributed my last name, however. Someday I must visit your beautiful country.
What kind of gunpowders are available in Norway for re-loading shotshells. If you let us know, many of us here might be able to provide load data. We're ready to help where we can.
Any chance you can get me in on any grouse, ptarmigan and moose hunting there?
Cheers! |
