I should have printed this info while available. Now, I can't access it online. Can anyone help me out?
I'm looking to load Herter's & Federal hulls with DR-16/Claybuster 16 7/8oz wads and Hodgon powder. There is no data for this that I know of. |

I don't know how to access the data that you are looking for. Downrange and Claybuster list their wad as Win. AA wad clone. Straight walled data difficult. Shotgunworld.com Downrange DR16 lack of popularity. posted Sun.Feb 05, 2012 lists one tested Federal Dr16 7/8oz.load Universal powder. Internet search will produce more Euro hulls with both Claybuster wad and Downrange wad. |

Data is posted in this file on the Yahoo 16 gauge group data
16 loads revise wads Apr 8.xls
Hodgdon Universal is listed as a 7/8 option for both hulls |

The DR16 and Claybuster clone wads have been designed to work well in any hull. Their wad base skirts are supple enough to fit any hull. The wad base skirts are a bit wider than those on the original WWAA wads as well. It's simply a matter of knowing how to use these newer wads to your best advantage.
The DR16 wad works just fine for 7/8 ounce loads in Federal hulls and other straight walled hulls like them. Firm wad seating pressure will flair out the wad base skirt to seal the powder in. A firm crimp will do the rest. A weighed charge of 17 grains of Green Dot or Hodgdon International Clays would be a good starting place for 7/8 ounce loads in your hulls.
The new Claybuster 7/8 ounce wad will be better for one ounce loads in your hulls. A weighed charge of 21 grains of Unique or Universal Clays would be good starting place for one ounce loads. Firm wad seating pressure and a firm crimp apply here as well. Good luck. |
