I put together a Federal 2.5 inch hull with 17.4 hrs of IMR PB topped with a DR 16 wad with 7/8 ozs. of shot and roll crimped them.
Have any of you guys loaded a similar load and how did it perform.
I am going to get them pressure tested but wanted to know if it works well.

Gordon,
That is a very light load.
In a Federal hull, you will probably me a lot happier with 20.0 grains of PB.
That will give you somewhere around 1,250 FPS. If you think that is too fast than maybe 19.0 or 19.5 grains of PB.
17.4 grains of PB with 7/8 oz. of shot will be a very low pressure load, probably under 6,000 PSI in a Federal hull. The velocity would probably be around 1100 FPS.
If that's what you want, I would use either a Winchester, CCI 209M, Federal or a similar robust primer with that load.
I went back through all of my data and that is about the best I can guess. |

Correct me if I am wrong but PB is not longer available. I have about 4 lbs left and am hoarding it.

Thank you all for this information. I know PB has been discontinued. Fortunately for me I have about fourteen pounds of PB left.

When Hodgdon announced that PB, SR7625 and SR4756 were being discontinued, I stated that I really didn't care, there were other powders......welllllllll.......the jokes on me I really miss SR7625 and to a lesser extent PB.
I used up the last of my SR7625 about a month ago!!!!
This kinda sucks!! |
