I have a number of cheddite hulls and primers that I want to use up with my two or three thousand DR16 wads. I have Longshot and International on hand, but am not averse to obtaining another powder.

I load 3/4 oz almost exclusively.

I joined the Low Pressure group years ago, so I sent a PM to Russ seeing if there was any data on the DR16's. Did not hear from him, don't know if he is still on the board.

I spent some time here with the search function, but it wasn't much help.

So, after doing my due diligence, anyone have (tested preferred) DR recipes for Cheddite hulls and primers? Most of my hulls are 2 1/2, but I do have some 2 3/4.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

You can also go here: http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/shotgun
Select 16 gage and 2 1/2 ched hulls.
Which will give you some international loads. I've used the 17 grain load with good results.

Mike,

I looked at joining, but didn't feel they needed my date of birth.

The Yahoo group linked required, among other things, full name, e mail, and DOB to join. In a world of identity theft, I declined.

I am as concerned as you about such issues. I have no reticence using that info with a company that stands to loose much more than me if such a thing were to happen even to one client.

I am guessing the date of birth is to ensure you are over 18 years old (though not sure why that matters). That being the case, If I were over 18 and concerned about someone knowing my date of birth, I would accidentally transpose a few of the digits.

Go to the Hogdon reloading site. They have great 3/4 oz low pressure loads using 2 1/2" cheddite hulls( I use Herters cut to 2 1/2), DR16, International, that give moderate speed, and PSI's under 7000. I just loaded up a flat of them, but dont have the exact grains of Int( around 16), handy.

As I mentioned to Jason, I had forgotten that website, having used the formula there for International. I'd forgotten about it because of a very high failure (squib, blooper) rate with that recipe. I was having a terrible time getting the DR16 in, and with many of the loads the wad was canted/cockeyed, and insufficient pressure developed resulted in not a few wads lodged at the end of the barrel. My shotgun mentor suggested new wad guide fingers for my PW 375 C. I had "only" reloaded maybe 5 to 7 k on it total, so it didn't occur to me they would be worn out. So I ordered a couple, and it definitely helped- for a short time. Maybe 500 rounds into it, and the DR16's are getting difficult to insert into the cheddites again, especially if the case mouth is not fully open/straight. My SG16's have no problem going into the same hull- that is, a cheddite with a partial opening of the petals.

Would a dry lube, like graphite, be advisable on the wad fingers? Powder contamination an issue?

I was one of the first to support Charles and buy 5000 from him, and I want them to work- I really like not having to use a filler. Truth be told, I have had a lot of trouble loading them. Appreciate all the help.

Mike

I am using that data with a MEC 600 Jr. and have not had any problems getting the wads into the 2 1/2 hulls. They are long which forces me to slide the wad guide down on top of the hull then push the shot cup up over the delivery tube at an angle before straightening them and pressing them down through the guide but that is a minor inconvenience and I learned to do it quickly. I've not had one hang, crush or otherwise screw up yet.

I'm new to shotshell reloading but I've fired about 400 of this recipe without a squib yet.

My problem has been inconsistent powder drops with International.
