If you hand load it will cost almost the same
I think it is a wickedly good deal

I patterned the Kent Bismuth 5's today. I think they look good and I'll have no reservations about using these on pheasants anywhere nontoxic shot is required.

The first photo is a 25 yard pattern through a .011 (about Light Mod.) choke.

Patterns look good. Would make a good load for woodies during early duck season. I wish I could find some but looks like no chance of that locally.

Dave thanks for doing that and posting the results. I like what I see! Next year if everything stands will have to go non tox for Farmlands region of Mn. which is at least half the State. Know what I'll be shooting then for phez and grouse around here. Oh wait I killed the last grouse in SE Mn. about 10 years ago . Sad

My summer of data binging is drying up, so I thought I'd finish up with a few more details on this 1 oz. Kent Bismuth #5 load.

The pellets weighed 438.4 grains (437.5 = 1 oz.), so they're right on.

I counted 219 pellets which is similar to an ounce of lead 6 (225/oz.), but the less dense bismuth looks and measures larger. It's not perfectly round and uniform, so I gpt measurements of .12 to .18. Visually it looks larger than regular 6 shot. In the picture it's next to the pretty Precision Reloading's Nickel 6 shot.

The powder weighed 21.4 grains and looks very similar to Unique, but who knows what it is.

I liked how these loads patterned in my OU, and if they perform well on pheasants I'm going to stock up!

Yep!

They look and measure larger than US 6's. The pellet count is about like US 6's, but the larger bismuth pellets take up more space in the load. I didn't describe things very well above.

Dave , Just FYI , checked some #5 Ely Bismuth , not perfectly round , measured .120 - .135 , ave 176 pellets to the ounce . Checked some copper washed #6 lead measure .115 and 200 pellets to the ounce.

Dave , it is kinda interesting how there can be a difference in how this stuff is made . My old bizz is the 7# can from Cabela's many yrs ago . Looks like a small version of the planet Earth , and the 4's look like 2's or BB's . When Master Tinkerer was making Bizz for us a few yrs ago , it looked very lead like , round and he was meticulous about sizing . Would be NICE if he was still doing it , but I don't think he was making any thing for the effort . REALLY NICE STUFF !!

I can't say these new Kent bismuth pellets are beautiful or perfectly uniform, but they do seem to pattern well. The only experience I have with bismuth is with a couple boxes I bought on clearance at Gander Mountain. i think they are labeled, "The Bismuth Cartridge Company" or something like that. I used them on wood ducks and they performed very well! They were 1 1/8 oz., 4 shot.

Ok all of this is great, but what are the pressures..... can I shoot them out of vintage Parker or a 20' or 30's English gun? Are the pressures at 7000 or 8000 or are they at the "promo" load pressures of 12,000 plus Surprised
