Hi all - I have recently acquired two 16 gauge shotguns. An old Remington model 11 and a brand new Fausti DEA.

Ammo seems to be a challenge here in Canada. Cabelas appears to have a very limited selection and don't really support reloading terribly well. (No shotgun powders for example)

I can order online via Western Metals and obtain Fiocchi at a premium.

Advice? I was on the verge of buying the Lee II today, but put it down when I discovered the powder issue.

The hunting loads on the shelf are a bit much for killing targets.....

I'm hoping to use the guns mostly for pheasant and grouse (possibly also ducks at Delta marsh over decoys) and the odd round of skeet. I.E I am after some versatility for these fine weapons.

Regards

Neil

Neil,

What are the legalities of coming to International Fall, getting ammo in the US, then shooting in a contest and taking residual ammo back home?

My understanding is that from the Canaian perspective, I can enter Canada with ammunition if I have a PAL ( all gun owners do).

However one runs foul of US law, as it is illegal to export firearms and ammunition as an individual.

Try Wholesale Sports in Calgary, AB. They usually have 1 1/8 oz. 4's and 6's from Remington, Kent, and Winchester.

Not to be splitting hairs but you wouldn't be exporting if you came over purchased for your own use would you?

I suppose that you mean that U S shippers will not ship to you then?

This would be a question to post over on SGW there will be someone there that knows how to thread the needle.

I sure would pass on the Lee loader
Step up to a MEC and you will be far happier in the short and long run, in my opinion.

So I spoke with the nice people at Wholesale Sports today.
"Oh, no one reloads shotgun shells anymore"

Now the US catalogues might contradict that statement, but there is very little powde to be had here in Winnipeg.

MEC junior 600 an option?

Have you guys had a chance to shoot the "new" Browning 16g shells?

Probably true but if you don't mind being slower my 600 does an excellent job. About 2 boxes an hour.

Not sure about Cabela's in Canada but they have a full line of 16 ga ammo in their Herter's line here in the US. If you have a store nearby, you might be able to order it and pick it up in store without shipping charges. Otherwise, you could watch for their $5.00 shipping sale. They have it several times a year. The Herter's ammo is inexpensive here and is of good quality. I've shot a bunch of it. All I've written applies to my experience here in the USA, but I would imagine they would have similar options up there.
